Accounting Manager
Location: Asheville, NC

We're seeking an experienced and hands-on Accounting Manager to lead critical financial operations for a fast-growing distribution organization serving both business-to-business and direct-to-consumer markets.
This is a senior accounting leadership role with direct responsibility for multi-state payroll, sales and excise tax compliance, treasury management, audits, financial reporting, and oversight of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams.

What You'll Do
Banking & Treasury Management
- Manage and reconcile multiple corporate bank accounts daily
- Oversee EFT and ACH payment processes
- Initiate customer fund requests and maintain banking templates
- Post miscellaneous financial transactions and coordinate cash activity
- Partner closely with AR and AP teams to ensure accurate cash flow management
Payroll & Payroll Tax Compliance
- Process and reconcile bi-weekly payroll using ADP
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements across multiple states
- Manage annual filings, including ACA reporting and Form 1095 requirements
- Prepare and submit EEOC reports
Sales Tax & Excise Tax Compliance
- Oversee multi-state sales tax filings and maintain compliance documentation
- Manage state notices and correspondence with Departments of Revenue
- Prepare and file state-specific excise tax returns
- Maintain accurate records to support audits and reporting requirements
Human Resources Support
- Manage employee records, onboarding, and offboarding processes within ADP
- Coordinate open enrollment activities alongside HR partners
- Reconcile employee benefit costs and carrier invoices
Audit Management & External Partnerships
- Lead annual 401(k) audit preparation and serve as the primary liaison with auditors
- Coordinate sales tax, insurance, and excise tax audits
- Prepare and file annual Secretary of State reports
- Collaborate with external accounting firms on corporate tax preparation
- Manage property tax reconciliations and related entity expenses
Financial Reporting & Team Leadership
- Lead and develop Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable team member
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial reporting packages
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Establish departmental goals, processes, and performance expectations
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, controls, and operational efficiency
What You Bring
Required Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience
- At least two years of experience in an Accounting Manager or similar leadership role
- Demonstrated experience processing multi-state payroll and managing payroll tax compliance
- Hands-on experience with ADP or a comparable payroll platform
- Experience managing multi-state sales tax compliance
- Proven ability to lead and develop accounting team
- Strong understanding of ACH/EFT processes and bank reconciliations
- Experience coordinating external audits
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
- Experience working within ERP systems; NetSuite experience is strongly preferred
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet critical deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NetSuite OneWorld
- Familiarity with excise tax compliance in regulated industries
- Knowledge of ACA and Form 1095 reporting requirements
- Experience managing multi-state Secretary of State filings
- Background in wholesale distribution, consumer products, or other regulated industries
