Step onto the shop floor of our client, a Redford-based manufacturer, and start your day by reviewing 2D engineering drawings and detailed work instructions. You’ll set up manual vertical turning lathes and program CNC vertical and horizontal turning lathes, aligning tooling and offsets to exacting specs. With every cut, you’ll follow established methods of manufacture and standard operating procedures—no exceptions.
What your day looks like- Review and interpret engineering drawings to plan the sequence of operations for large metallic components (24" section size; 500 lbs).
- Operate manual vertical turning lathes and CNC vertical/horizontal turning lathes to machine parts to customer specifications.
- Set up and adjust tooling, confirm workholding integrity, establish proper feeds/speeds, and validate offsets.
- Program and edit CNC programs (primarily Fanuc; exposure to Haas and CAM software welcomed).
- Monitor equipment performance, run in-process checks, and document results in line with AS9100 quality requirements.
- Perform routine machine checks, practice 5S, and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Collaborate with teammates to move work efficiently through the machine shop while meeting delivery commitments.

- Manual machining background plus CNC operation experience.
- Ability to read 2D engineering drawings and follow detailed written instructions.
- Hands-on CNC programming and editing experience (Fanuc required).
- Proven work in an AS9100 quality environment and heavy manufacturing settings.
- Experience machining metallic components over 500 lbs and larger than 24" in section size.
- Comfort machining special alloy materials with appropriate tooling strategies.
- Team-first mindset with strong communication across shifts and departments.
