Position SummaryThe CNC Setup and Programming Machinist is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC machines to produce precision components according to specifications. This role ensures efficient machine operation, accurate part production, and adherence to quality and safety standards.Key Responsibilities CNC Programming & SetupCreate, modify, and optimize CNC programs using G‑code, CAM software, or machine controls.Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine machining operations.Set up CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machines—including tooling, fixtures, offsets, and workholding.Perform first‑article inspections to validate setup accuracy.Machine OperationOperate CNC equipment to produce precision parts according to tolerances and specifications.Monitor machine performance and adjust feeds, speeds, and offsets to maintain quality.Load raw materials, remove finished parts, and perform routine cleaning and maintenance.Quality AssuranceInspect machined parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMMs, and other precision tools.Document inspection results and ensure parts meet dimensional and surface-finish requirements.Identify and correct machining issues such as tool wear, chatter, or dimensional drift.Safety & Continuous ImprovementFollow all plant safety rules, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements.Maintain a clean, organized work area in compliance with 5S principles.Recommend improvements to tooling, programs, processes, and workflow to increase efficiency.Qualifications Required2–5 years of CNC machining or setup experience (milling, turning, or both).Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T.Strong knowledge of G‑code and CNC machine controls (Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, etc.).Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.Mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.PreferredExperience with CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, GibbsCAM, Esprit, etc.).Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.Ability to troubleshoot machine issues independently.Working ConditionsManufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, metal, noise, and lubricants.May require standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, or operating overhead cranes.Typical Schedule & CompensationFull-time, on-site positionCompetitive wage based on experience, plus shift differentials where applicable.
