What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant, Franchise Accounting & AI position at Exponent?
Senior Accountant, Franchise Accounting & AI
About Exponent
Company Description
Exponent is the fastest-growing financial technology platform built exclusively for franchise and
multi-location brand operators. We offer three integrated products — industry-leading financing
programs including a charge card, acquisition and build-out loans, and an AI-powered
Accountant — giving operators a single platform to manage spend, access growth capital, and
automate their financial operations. We have secured significant equity and credit capital and
are backed by leading institutional investors and family offices who operate large franchise
portfolios.
Role Description
The Senior Accountant is the first accountant working alongside our AI-powered Accountant.
You will be the first accountant at Exponent and our AI/ML will learn from how you close books
(that are prepared for you) from our product’s ingestion of an operator's POS, banking, payroll,
and processor data, classifies and reconciles it, and automates the close.
You review what the system produces, you correct it, and your corrections train the models.
Your role’s unique opportunity is to train the models and company on best practices in franchise
accounting, and help grow our business as a leader - not just an accountant. This is an
individual contributor seat today, with a defined path to leading the accounting team as the
customer base grows.
Requirements
4 years of franchisee accounting for multi-unit restaurant or retail businesses, in-house
at an operator, at a firm serving them, or at a bookkeeping provider.
You have owned a full close start to finish, period after period, in QuickBooks Online,
Restaurant365, Sage Intacct, or similar.
POS-to-deposit fluency: comps, discounts, third-party delivery holdbacks, processor
fees, tips, chargebacks, and timing.
Multi-entity accounting on accrual books that hold up to GAAP: consolidations,
intercompany, and holding-company-to-store-LLC structures. Payroll journal entries and
reconciliation to the provider.
Preferred qualifications
Proximity to NYC or willingness to relocate to NYC.
Active CPA license.
Multi-state sales tax experience.
Experience training or supervising other accountants.
