The Fabrication Manager (FM) is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and controlling all activities within the Fabrication Department. The FM ensures that department goals are met, supporting the overall business plan to achieve sustained growth and maximum profitability. Additionally, the FM will lead projects as a Team Lead, working directly with subordinate Cabinet Makers.

Explus offers a full range of in-house museum exhibit fabrication services including Project Management, Detailing, Scenic & Art Production, Exhibit Fabrication, Audio-Visual Systems Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Interactive Production, Artifact Mounting, and Exhibit Shipping & Installation. Our firm currently maintains a well-equipped metalworking department, full digital and traditional graphic capabilities, direct printing, nationally recognized artifact mounting, lighting and security specialists, electromechanical interactive technicians, in addition to its very experienced cadre of cabinetmakers and installation crews.

Additionally, the FM will lead projects as a Team Lead, working directly with subordinate Cabinet Makers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Departmental Management:
- Oversee all personnel in the Fabrication Department, including fabrication, finishing, metal, acrylic, preservation, interactive, and AV.
- Manage the production process from start to finish, ensuring adherence to schedules and deadlines.
- Collaborate with Project Managers (PM) to address and mitigate any project delays.
- Monitor and control cost centers with Team Leads and PMs to avoid cost overruns.
- Production Oversight:
- Track production tickets from the initial meeting to the final product, ensuring all fabricated elements follow the scope of work.
- Conduct interim and final inspections of all fabricated elements during production and before delivery.
- Assign personnel to specific production tasks in collaboration with Team Leads.
- Propose and implement new production ideas to improve productivity and profitability.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Maintain a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with VOSH (OSHA) standards and companywide safety programs.
- Ensure that all fabrication employees receive initial orientation and ongoing training, with regular evaluations.
- Oversee the maintenance of fabrication areas, equipment, and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Tool and Equipment Management:
- Track company tools taken off-premises for installation work.
- Ensure that production facilities open and close at appointed times, with at least two employees present during work hours.
- Leadership and Training:
- Provide technical expertise and training to fabrication employees as required.
- Evaluate and ensure the competence of all subordinates, providing training as necessary.
- Foster teamwork and maintain high morale, motivation, and communication within the department.
- Education: High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including SharePoint, Teams, Excel, and Word.
- Strong computer literacy with Windows-based applications.
- Knowledge of IOS or Android apps and usability.
- Expertise in cabinetmaking, woodworking, laminating, finishing, and electrical installations.
- Working knowledge of fabrication tools and shop equipment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience in a shop production environment with a focus on safety training and awareness.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, and stoop as necessary.
- Ability to meet project schedules, labor budgets, and deliverables.
- Maintenance of fabrication areas and equipment.
- Punctuality and dependability in completing assignments.
- Compliance with safety procedures and company policies.
- Ensuring the competence of subordinates and providing necessary training.
- Meeting product quality standards as per project contracts.
- Promoting teamwork to solve problems.
- Maintaining high morale and motivation on the shop floor, including effective communication and coordination.
