Machine Learning Scientist II
Have you ever wondered about the best time to buy a flight? Or which hotel has the best deals? How about when and how to notify millions of travelers around the world about these insights to help them have memorable travel experiences?
The Travel Insights & Interactions (TII) team at Expedia uses machine learning to power insights like these. We build and maintain models to predict trends in pricing, availability, cancellations, and many other areas. We also build systems that optimize getting this information to travelers by intelligently deciding how, when, and what communications we send. In partnership with Trust & Safety, we build AI tools that proactively identify potential travel issues and take corrective actions. We`re looking for a knowledgeable Machine Learning Scientist to help us deliver our next generation of insights to power the travel experience.
Who you are:
Strong background using Python to implement machine learning techniques across a variety of problem types including regression, classification, and clustering
Experience performing machine learning in an industry setting using tools such as PySpark, Airflow, SQL, Hive, Kubernetes and Databricks
Strong knowledge of statistics and hypothesis testing
Driven to test fast and iterate quickly on your work
Comfortable digging into business problems and explaining your projects to stakeholders with a variety of backgrounds
Our team`s problems and the solutions we implement are wide-ranging, so you should have an interest in applying your knowledge across many different types of machine learning problems
Nice to have:
Background in applying ML to forecasting, marketing, or Trust & Safety problems
Experience productionizing real-world ML applications
Knowledge of Bayesian techniques and modeling approaches
Experience using AB testing to rapidly iterate production models
Background sharing applied work to external audiences
What you'll do:
Solve challenging problems in the travel domain ranging from price forecasting, to optimizing traveler engagement, to detecting and mitigating disruptive events
You`ll work on the full stack of machine learning from data investigation, modeling, production deployment and AB testing
Engage with stakeholders to understand their business needs and translate them into technical solutions
Continually improve and iterate on your models to drive value for EG and our travelers
Share your learnings across the wider ML community within EG and externally via blogs, conferences, and papers
The total cash range for this position in Austin is $112,000 to $156,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $112,000.00 to $156,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual`s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
