Within this organization, the Expedia Group Design System (EGDS) team is responsible for maintaining and evolving our design system. We work closely with designers and engineering teams across the company to help deliver high-quality, accessible, and consistent UI patterns for our travelers and partners.
As an Android Engineer III on this team, you will be a key contributor to the foundation of Expedia Group's mobile applications. We are looking for a high-performing individual who wants to make a real impact while also upskilling those around them.
In This Role, You Will
The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $136,000.00 to $190,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $217,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.

In This Role, You Will
- Design, build, and maintain advanced Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android frameworks, ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability across a diverse device ecosystem.
- Lead end‑to‑end feature delivery, including low‑level design, API design, and data modeling for mobile features and services that integrate with backend systems and shared platforms.
- Collaborate with product, design, and cross‑functional engineering teams to define technical approaches, refine requirements, and deliver high‑quality customer experiences in a fast‑paced environment.
- Leverage and advocate for the use of AI tools as a copilot to accelerate development and encourage adoption across the team.
- Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
- Enhance observability, performance monitoring, and incident resolution for Android applications, contributing to operational excellence and reusable patterns across multiple product areas.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
- 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Professional experience developing Android applications in Kotlin, including building, debugging, and optimizing production Android apps or SDKs.
- Hands-on experience with core Android components and patterns (such as Activities/Fragments, Jetpack libraries, networking, data persistence, and UI frameworks) and with standard software engineering practices (version control, code reviews, testing).
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement Android features and supporting APIs within a service or set of services, collaborating with other engineers to deliver reliable and maintainable solutions.
- Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
- Advanced proficiency with Jetpack components/Jetpack Compose, Android UI/UX best practices, and performance optimization.
- Direct experience contributing to or using a design system.
- Experience implementing sophisticated UI interactions, animations, and transitions on Android.
- Experience using AI productivity tools like Claude or Copilot for development, code quality, or efficiency
- Experience building accessible (a11y) and inclusive user interfaces.
- Experience safely integrating and operating AI/ML‑enabled or AI‑assisted features within mobile applications, such as recommendation experiences, intelligent automation, or personalized flows.
- Demonstrated ability to apply AI/ML‑adjacent techniques (for example, leveraging on‑device ML frameworks or AI‑powered developer tools) to improve development productivity, quality, or customer outcomes.
- Knowledge of Android app architecture patterns (e.g., MVVM, MVI, MVP).
