Exeter Region Cooperative Middle School is seeking an inspiring, collaborative, and forward-thinking Middle School Vocal Music Teacher & Choral Director to lead our vibrant vocal program. We are looking for a dynamic educator who is deeply passionate about early adolescent musical development, possesses exceptional piano proficiency, and brings innovative strategies to both ensemble rehearsals and classroom music. In this role, you will curate diverse repertoire, cultivate a supportive environment where young singers find their voices, and direct engaging performances that showcase student growth. Beyond the choral classroom, you will have the unique opportunity to integrate creative elements into our wider arts community, where a background or interest in musical theatre production is highly valued. Key Responsibilities

  • Ensemble & Classroom Leadership: Design and deliver a modern, comprehensive vocal music curriculum that balances technique, theory, harmony, and performance for middle school ensembles and general music courses.
  • Performance Direction: Plan, rehearse, and direct dynamic school concerts and community performances, cultivating high standards of musicianship and stage presence.
  • Inclusive Pedagogy: Build an inclusive, safe, and positive classroom culture utilizing modern pedagogy and multi-tiered, differentiated strategies to support students of all learning styles and ability levels, including those with special needs.
  • Theatrical Collaboration: Partner with the arts department to support or lead musical theatre initiatives and stage productions.
  • Data & Progress Assessment: Conduct ongoing formal and informal assessments of student musical growth; maintain accurate records for grading, attendance, and reporting in alignment with district policies and educational laws.
  • Professional Collaboration: Actively participate in faculty meetings, grade-level committees, and professional learning communities (PLCs) to foster a cooperative working environment.
  • Community Engagement: Maintain proactive, professional communication with families to celebrate student progress and encourage community support for the performing arts program.
  • Resource & Inventory Management: Select, requisition, and maintain instructional music supplies, sheet music libraries, and classroom equipment to ensure a highly functional and safe learning space.

Qualifications, Knowledge, & Skills

  • Pedagogical Expertise: Strong understanding of adolescent vocal development, choral conducting, and innovative teaching methods, alongside a commitment to ongoing professional growth and self-evaluation.
  • Musical Proficiency: Advanced piano accompaniment skills and the ability to effectively instruct students in vocal technique, harmonization, and choral blend.
  • Communication & Tech Literacy: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with school data information systems, grading networks, and standard educational software/office equipment.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Music Education or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience: Successful prior teaching experience in middle school vocal music or ensemble direction is highly preferred.
  • Licensure: Valid New Hampshire State Certification as a Music Teacher (or immediate eligibility), and a valid driver's license with reliable transportation for district travel.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • Environment: Standard school building and auditorium environments; ability to manage the physical demands of rehearsing, conducting, and organizing performance spaces.
