Apex Systems is seeking a skilled Kubernetes Platform Engineer to support and enhance AWS EKS environments for the Department of Labor. This role focuses on platform stability, tenant onboarding, and automation to deliver a secure and efficient Kubernetes ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Build and maintain Kubernetes IaC using Helm and Terraform for tenant environments and namespaces.
- Configuration & Security: Apply Kubernetes application configurations, RBAC, IRSA, and enforce security policies.
- Platform Maintenance: Perform EKS patching, upgrades, and configuration changes to ensure reliability.
- Networking & Load Balancing: Deploy and configure Kubernetes load balancers (public & ingress) aligned with TIC standards.
- Image Management: Execute base image maintenance tasks and assist with image distribution.
- Tenant Onboarding: Support repo setup, CI/CD pipeline configuration, and Helm chart deployments.
- Automation: Develop workflows for self-service provisioning and operational tasks.
- Disaster Recovery: Support backup/restore processes and DR execution.
- Documentation: Contribute to platform documentation and operational runbooks.
- Maintenance Rotation: Participate in after-hours and weekend maintenance windows.
- Education & Experience: BS/BA degree and 8 years of work experience.
- Kubernetes Expertise: 35 years in Kubernetes administration (EKS preferred).
- Tools & Technologies: Helm, Terraform, ArgoCD, AWS IAM/RBAC.
- Monitoring: Familiarity with Prometheus and Grafana.
- Networking & Security: Strong understanding of Kubernetes networking and security.
- Container Management: Experience with container registry management.
- Scripting: Proficiency in Bash and Python.
- Soft Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Availability: Ability to work nights/weekends for patching or deployments.
- Clearance: Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
- Experience with automation workflows and CI/CD integration.
- Familiarity with AWS EKS best practices and multi-tenant environments.
