The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Texas has a vacancy for an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Division in the Beaumont office. Attorneys in the Civil Division represent the United States, its agencies and their offices in both defensive and affirmative litigation. This position will be responsible for the litigation of claims involving, among other things, health care fraud, environmental matters, defense procurement fraud, torts, administrative enforcement actions, Touhy matters, prisoner litigation, housing and employment discrimination, and disability rights matters. The selected attorney will handle all aspects of investigations and cases, including gathering evidence, taking testimony, writing briefs, and appearing in court at hearings and trials. The attorney may also handle other types of cases as needed.

Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree (or equivalent), be an active member in good standing of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) and have at least one-year post-J.D. (or equivalent) legal or other relevant experience.

A minimum of 3-years post-J.D. (or equivalent) legal or other relevant experience is requiredUnited States citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants must demonstrate a quick analytical ability to accurately and precisely articulate the critical issues in a case. Applicants must demonstrate superior oral and writing skills, as well as strong research and interpersonal skills, and good judgment. Applicants must possess excellent communication and courtroom skills and exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff, and client agencies. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Education

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree.

Additional information

Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $70,442,to $153,834 per year.

Beaumont, Texas: Salary is $82,459 to $180,078 which includes a 17.06% locality pay.
