Controller – Public Works Construction
We are a licensed construction contractor in Irvine, CA specializing in government and public works projects. We’re seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations, strengthen reporting and controls, and support compliance requirements including certified payroll and audit readiness.
Responsibilities
Lead full-cycle accounting: AP/AR, GL, month-end close, financial statements
Produce accurate financial reporting, forecasts, and cash flow analysis
Oversee construction accounting: job costing, WIP, progress billings, change orders, retention
Manage/coordinate payroll and certified payroll reporting (prevailing wage/DIR compliance)
Maintain documentation for contractor/subcontractor compliance (licenses, COIs, payroll submissions)
Support audits and coordinate with CPAs/tax professionals
Qualifications
5 years accounting leadership experience in construction (Controller preferred)
Public Works/government Contract Experience Strongly Preferred
Experience with certified payroll and prevailing wage compliance required
Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction financial reporting
Experience with construction accounting software (Sage/ Viewpoint/ Spectrum/ QuickBooks, etc.)
Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance required; CPA a plus
