Land Development Crew Manager

Executive Construction Homes, LLC is a multi-award-winning home builder recognized by the Greater Columbia Home Builders Association, with an established presence throughout the Columbia, SC area. Our land development division specializes in site work, land clearing, grading, erosion control, and infrastructure installation for residential subdivision development projects.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Land Development Crew Manager to lead field operations for residential subdivision development projects. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for managing crews, coordinating daily site activities, maintaining project schedules and budgets, and operating heavy equipment as needed.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in site development, earthwork, grading, and utility installation, along with proven experience operating heavy construction equipment and leading crews in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all field operations for residential land development and erosion control projects from site preparation through completion.
- Lead crews and coordinate equipment, materials, and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Read and interpret construction plans, grading plans, and specifications to direct daily work activities.
- Operate heavy equipment as needed, including dozers, excavators, skid steers, mini excavators, and off-road trucks.
- Monitor production, quality, safety compliance, and project schedules while proactively resolving field challenges.
- Track equipment utilization, manpower, and job performance to maximize efficiency and profitability.
- Maintain effective communication with project managers, inspectors, subcontractors, and clients.
- Develop and mentor crew members while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safety.
Qualifications Required Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in land development, sitework, earthwork, or heavy civil construction.
- Demonstrated experience leading construction crews and managing daily field operations.
- Proficient in operating heavy equipment, including dozers, excavators, off-road dump trucks, skid steers, and other earthmoving equipment.
- Strong knowledge of grading, drainage systems, erosion control, and residential subdivision development.
- Ability to read, interpret, and execute work from construction plans, grading drawings, and project specifications.
- Working knowledge of project scheduling, production planning, budgeting, and cost control.
- Proven leadership, communication, and decision-making skills with the ability to effectively manage crews, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and OSHA compliance.
- Ability to identify and resolve field challenges while maintaining productivity and project schedules.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA certification or equivalent safety training.
- Experience with GPS machine control systems.
- Familiarity with construction management software and digital reporting tools.
Requirements
- Must be able to commute to Elgin, SC.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Relocation to the area prior to employment is required if not currently local.
