This is a detailed job description because this is not a basic detailing position. We are looking for someone who can grow into a trusted production-support role involving vehicle prep, ceramic coatings, PPF pattern handling, and quality control.

Position Summary

Exclusive Paint Protection is seeking a focused, detail-oriented production support technician for our Huntersville location. This role is designed for someone with strong detailing ability, pride in precision work, and the desire to grow into the technical side of paint protection film support.

The position combines vehicle preparation, ceramic coating application, paint protection film prep support, pattern software usage, plotter operation, post-installation quality control, shop organization, and limited professional client interaction.

This is a hands-on technical role. The primary value of this position is the ability to stay focused, follow process, protect quality, and support installers by making sure vehicles, patterns, materials, and finished installations are properly prepared, organized, and checked.

Primary Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this role is to improve production flow at the Huntersville location by giving ownership to important tasks that happen before, during, and after installation.

This person helps ensure vehicles are properly cleaned and prepared before installation, patterns are downloaded, cut, separated, and labeled correctly, ceramic coatings are applied to company standards, and completed vehicles are inspected and cleaned before delivery.

Core ResponsibilitiesVehicle Prep & Detailing

• Perform safe exterior hand washes, drying, wheel cleaning, glass cleaning, and basic interior cleaning.
• Prepare vehicles for paint protection film, ceramic coating, detailing, and window tint services.
• Perform paint decontamination, clay bar treatment, surface prep, and other preparation steps as required.
• Identify and document visible paint defects, chips, scratches, stains, water spots, prior paintwork, or other concerns before work begins.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
• Safely move and stage customer vehicles as needed.
• Support final cleanup and presentation before customer pickup.

Ceramic Coating Application

• Apply ceramic coatings according to company standards and product-specific procedures.
• Prepare painted surfaces properly before coating application.
• Follow correct timing, leveling, inspection, and wipe-down procedures.
• Inspect panels for high spots, missed areas, streaking, residue, or uneven application.
• Protect coating quality by maintaining a clean work area and proper lighting.
• Follow all company procedures for coating preparation, application, curing, and delivery readiness.

PPF Pre-Application Prep

• Prepare vehicles for PPF installation by ensuring panels are properly cleaned, decontaminated, and ready for film.
• Assist with identifying areas that may require special attention before installation.
• Help ensure vehicle surfaces, edges, badges, trim, and install areas are clean and properly staged.
• Support installers by preparing tools, towels, slip solution, tack solution, film, and workspaces.
• Help reduce installer downtime by making sure the vehicle and materials are ready before the installer begins.

Pattern Software, Plotter & Film Organization

• Use computer software to locate and download PPF patterns.
• Operate the plotter to cut patterns accurately.
• Separate, weed, and organize cut patterns for installers.
• Label patterns clearly by vehicle, panel, side, package, and installer need.
• Confirm that the correct pattern, vehicle year, make, model, trim, and package are selected before cutting.
• Communicate any pattern concerns, missing pieces, software uncertainty, or fitment questions to the installer before work proceeds.
• Maintain organization of film, patterns, printed labels, and related materials.

Post-Installation Quality Control

• Assist with post-installation inspection of completed PPF work.
• Check for visible contamination, lifting, fingers, excessive moisture, alignment issues, exposed edges, or other quality concerns.
• Assist with edge wrapping and sealing in accordance with company standards.
• Help identify edges, corners, seams, or high-risk areas that need installer attention.
• Perform final wipe-down and delivery preparation after installation.
• Escalate any quality concern to the lead installer or owner before the vehicle is released.
• Support a consistent final inspection process so vehicles are not delivered with avoidable issues.

Professional Client Interaction

While this is primarily a production role, the person in this position should be comfortable representing the company in a professional manner when interacting with clients.

This may include greeting a client, receiving keys, confirming basic appointment information, or letting the client know that the appropriate team member will follow up.

The person in this role should be polite, calm, and professional, while also understanding when to escalate questions involving pricing, warranty, technical concerns, scheduling commitments, or service recommendations.

They do not need to be a full PPF installer on day one, but they must have the patience, organization, and attention to detail needed to support premium PPF and coating work.

They should also have enough professionalism and maturity to communicate respectfully with clients when needed.

Qualifications

• Automotive detailing experience required.
• Ceramic coating experience preferred.
• PPF experience or plotter/software experience preferred, but not required for the right candidate.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow process.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to safely move customer vehicles.
• Comfortable working around premium and high-value vehicles.
• Ability to use basic computer software and learn pattern-cutting systems.
• Professional appearance and respectful communication.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Willingness to learn PPF prep, pattern handling, edge sealing, and quality control standards.
• Ability to stand, bend, lift, clean, and work in a shop environment.

The second stage includes pattern software, plotter operation, pattern separation, labeling, and installer support.

The third stage includes deeper PPF support, edge sealing, post-installation QC, delivery inspection, and more advanced production responsibility.

Long-term growth may include becoming a stronger PPF assistant, advanced coating technician, or full PPF installer depending on consistency, skill development, and ownership.Overview
