Job Description

As an RN in Med Surg at Southwest General Hospital Center, you will be a vital part of our interdisciplinary healthcare team, delivering expert patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, and collaborative treatment. You will manage patient needs throughout hospitalization, focusing on recovery, education, and overall well-being. Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Assessment and Care Planning: Conduct comprehensive physical, emotional, and psychological assessments upon admission and throughout hospitalization. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team, adjusting as patient conditions evolve.
  • Medication and Treatment Administration: Accurately administer prescribed medications via oral, IV, or injectable routes. Monitor patient responses, identify adverse reactions, and communicate any concerns to the healthcare team. Perform wound care, dressing changes, and manage drains/tubes as needed.
  • Patient Monitoring and Documentation: Regularly monitor vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature. Document all assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in accordance with hospital policies. Recognize and promptly report any clinical changes or complications.
  • Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Participate in daily rounds, communicate effectively with physicians, specialists, physical therapists, social workers, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care. Provide regular updates on patient progress and coordinate treatment plans.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and families on disease processes, surgical procedures, medication management, and discharge instructions. Offer emotional support and counseling to address concerns and reduce anxiety.
  • Postoperative Care Management: Monitor postoperative patients for signs of complications such as infection, bleeding, or respiratory issues. Manage pain and facilitate early mobilization, ensuring patients are well-informed about recovery steps and follow-up care.
  • Patient Safety and Infection Control: Adhere strictly to infection prevention protocols, fall prevention measures, and safety standards. Maintain a sterile environment and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) consistently.
  • Emergency Response: Recognize urgent clinical situations, provide immediate interventions such as CPR, and coordinate with emergency response teams to stabilize patients.
