Summary/Objective: This position is responsible for developing a loan portfolio as well as promoting the Bank and its services to potential customers. This position evaluates and recommends approval of customer applications for consumer loans, generates referrals, and develops relationships with new and existing clients. Ensures retail loans are in compliance with the Bank’s policies and procedures and applicable laws and regulations. The Consumer Loan Officer helps manage the portfolio of the branch and assists with credit analysis of new clients.

- Maintains a current knowledge and adheres to lending regulations, Bank loan policy and procedures related to the position.
- Expands customer base through networking, sales calling non-borrowing customers as well as loan customers. Maintains product knowledge to generate credit, deposit, and fee business and explains the different types of loans and credit options that are available, as well as the terms of those services to customers.
- Interviews loan applicants to determine needs and advise them of various credit products. Requests specific information necessary for loan underwriting.
- Develops a complete knowledge of all bank products and services with an emphasis on loan programs, loan policies, forms and guidelines.
- Analyzes the creditworthiness of the customer by pulling credit reports, ordering appraisals, analyzing collateral, and applying sound lending practices and procedures. Responsible for the credit quality of loans produced, preparing credit memos, and presenting the loan to appropriate management for approval.
- Approves loans within specified limits and refers loan applications outside those limits to management for approval.
- Communicates approvals or denials to the potential borrower.
- Conducts timely loan closings, including the review of documents, repayment schedules, insurance and lien holder requirements, and method of payment. Ensures loan agreements are complete and accurate according to established policies.
- Responsible for relationship management and business development through the cross-selling of products and services.
- Collects the appropriate information necessary to finalize incomplete loan packages.
- Communicates with leadership about any underwriting problems.
- Responsible for working with customers in the loan portfolio that are past due on payments and making arrangements for payment to ensure collection. In addition, this position may work the past due accounts for overdraft protection accounts.
- Responds to telephone and written inquiries in a timely manner.
- Stays informed of any changes in loan underwriting provisions.
- Participates in community involvement activities to enhance the Bank’s visibility, image, and reputation.
- Responsible for working loan exception reports to ensure the required annual financials, insurance, etc. are received and maintained in loan files.
- All other duties as assigned.
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related degree.
- 1 to 2 years of prior experience in a financial institution or loan office setting.
- Demonstrated sales, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Preferred previous experience with CRE and C&I with demonstrable understanding of financial analysis functions.
