Job Summary
The Occupational Therapy Team Lead is a working leader responsible for managing a patient caseload while overseeing a team of Occupational Therapists and support staff. This role is accountable for ensuring high-quality patient care, strong clinical outcomes, and operational excellence within the Occupational Therapy department.
The Team Lead partners with leadership and HR to support staffing, performance management, and professional development, while also driving best practices and consistency in occupational therapy services
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
• Manage and provide day-to-day oversight of Occupational Therapy staff.
• Partner with leadership and HR to recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and retain team members.
• Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching, and address employee relations matters as needed.
• Foster a positive, collaborative team culture aligned with Excelsior’s values.
Clinical Oversight
• Maintain an active patient caseload and perform all duties of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
• Oversee and support development of patient care plans and treatment interventions.
• Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered occupational therapy services.
• Monitor patient outcomes, satisfaction, and overall clinical effectiveness.
Quality & Compliance
• Regularly audit patient documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
• Ensure proper documentation, coding, and billing practices are followed.
• Maintain awareness of industry best practices and implement improvements as needed.
Operations & Performance
• Perform all duties outlined in the Occupational Therapist job description.
• Monitor and support key performance indicators (KPIs), including productivity, patient outcomes, and satisfaction.
• Identify workflow improvements to enhance efficiency and patient experience.
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels and coverage in collaboration with leadership.
Training & Development
• Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement training programs.
• Support onboarding and mentorship of new Occupational Therapy staff.
• Promote continuous learning and professional development within the team.
Communication
• Effectively communicate organizational updates, policies, and expectations to staff.
• Serve as a liaison between the Occupational Therapy team and leadership.
• Ensure consistent, clear communication across the department.

Requirements and Qualifications
- A master’s degree in occupational therapy (OT) from an accredited program.
- Valid and current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an outpatient occupational therapy setting
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred (2 years)
- Strong clinical expertise in occupational therapy practices
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.
- Computer skills required with minimum proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
Physical Demands
- Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to enter data, provide patient care, and operate equipment
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal range to observe and communicate with patients, providers, and staff.
- Frequent reaching, stooping, squatting, bending, kneeling, and crouching
- Extensive standing and walking required
- Occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Work environment may involve some exposure to hazards/physical risk
- Position requires full range of body motion including ability to position and move patients
- Occasional exertion of 25 lbs or more of force
The pay range for this position is determined based on several factors, including the candidate’s years of experience, qualifications, training, licenses, designations, and the overall market conditions.
