About Us:
Gunnison Copper is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Metallurgist to join our team at the Johnson Camp Mine / Gunnison Project. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or an upper-level college student in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field who is eager to gain hands-on experience in hydrometallurgical operations and lab-based process analysis.
The Metallurgist will support day-to-day laboratory operations, assist with metallurgical testing and data collection, and help optimize copper recovery processes. Working closely with the Senior Metallurgist and other technical staff, this individual will gain exposure to real-world mining operations while contributing to continuous improvement projects and production support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct laboratory testing, sampling, and analysis to support operations and process improvements
- Collect, record, and analyze test data under supervision
- Assist in developing and implementing metallurgical test plans and pilot studies
- Monitor solution chemistry and process performance
- Maintain accurate lab documentation and ensure proper sample handling
- Support equipment calibration and maintenance schedules
- Follow all site safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures
- Participate in special projects and provide technical support to operations as needed
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
- Strong interest in hydrometallurgy, solution mining, and process optimization
- Basic understanding of metallurgical principles, laboratory techniques, and data interpretation
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and data organization
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to working safely in a mining environment
Additional Requirements:
- This position may require occasional work on varying shifts, including days, nights, or weekends.
- This role is designated as "Safety Sensitive" under Arizona law.
