Writing Coach - IN-PERSON AVAILABILITY 6 HRS / WEEK MINIMUM REQUIRED
EXCELLERATE LEARNING STUDIO is looking for experienced writing coaches for our academic enrichment (after school hours) program for students grades 3 to 12. This is a part-time position with both in-person and online work hours. Please note:
- **A MINIMUM OF 6 HOURS OF IN-PERSON AVAILABILITY IS REQUIRED**
- You must be able to offer at least 8 hours of in-person availability between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Thursday. Weekend availability is a plus!
- You must have knowledge and experience to enable you to teach Language Arts through 8th Grade.
- Experience coaching high schoolers in writing, including college application essays, is a plus!
A great part-time position for a graduate student, recent graduate with a bachelor's degree, a current or former teacher, or a stay-at-home parent who wants to stay engaged in writing.

Teaching opportunities (with training)
1:1 writing coaching and small group classes (2-5 students each) that allow various opportunities in person and online:
- Guiding students through a cumulative curriculum that emphasizes style and structure in writing (including grammar and vocabulary) through effective techniques and clear frameworks
- Walking students through an author kit to develop their own story for publishing at age-appropriate level
- Helping students overcome barriers to writing and engaging in a process of producing creative, informative, persuasive, and personal narrative pieces
- Providing a safe space where students can learn to develop their own thoughts on important topics through careful reading, honest discussion, and reflective writing.
- Advising students in contest writing
- Coaching students through journalism and marketing storytelling
Qualifications
Must
- Have a bachelor’s degree
- Have knowledge and experience to enable you to teach Language Arts through the 8th grade level
- Be able to offer a minimum of 6 hours of availability in person between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Thursday
- Have reliable transportation to our locations (Glenview and Lincolnshire)
- Have access to reliable technology — robust Internet connection and a desktop computer or laptop that can handle leading Zoom meetings and screen sharing while working in the Google suite
- Be comfortable with technology, especially the Google Suite and Zoom, to smoothly lead classes online
- Be comfortable working one-on-one with students
- Pass background check and drug test (if applicable)
Plus
- Availability weekends in person
- Previous experience in working with elementary and/or middle school and high school students
- Experience coaching high schoolers in writing, including college application essays
