Job Summary
The Panel Assembly Technician is the entry point for individuals pursuing a technical career in a UL industrial control panel fabrication and pump station automation. In this role, you will build panels in a shop environment under the direction of experienced technicians while developing safe work habits, workmanship standards, and documentation discipline. You will learn to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts; prepare and install components; and wire devices to specification. Limited support of field installation work may be assigned when scheduled and trained.
- Assist in assembling and wiring industrial control panels from prints (schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings) and bill of materials (BOM).
- Mount and wire basic devices such as terminal blocks, relays, pilot lights/indicators, and float switches.
- Cut, strip, label, crimp, and route conductors per shop standards; apply ferrules/lugs as required.
- Use hand and power tools safely; maintain clean wire routing, bend radius, and panel cleanliness.
- Perform basic point-to-point checks, continuity checks, and simple troubleshooting using a multimeter under supervision.
- Follow revision control and document work in progress (markups/redlines, checklists, and material usage).
- Follow safety practices and training requirements including lockout/tagout and electrical safe work practices aligned to OSHA and NFPA 70E.
- When assigned and trained, assist field electricians with panel installation support, conduit support, and equipment terminations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic hand/power tool skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability and willingness to learn industrial electrical wiring and panel assembly fundamentals.
- Ability to follow wiring diagrams, panel layouts, work instructions, and quality checklists with attention to detail.
- Basic computer/labeling skills (or willingness to learn) for wire/device identification and documentation.
- Dependable attendance and ability to work assigned shift, including occasional overtime as needed.
- Basic safety knowledge and willingness to complete OSHA 10, lockout/tagout, and NFPA 70E awareness training (as required).
- Prior panel shop or electrical assembly experience is preferred but not required.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
