The AV Support Technician is primarily responsible for providing support for educational and administrative audio visual and video equipment for events in learning spaces, including podium computers, control panels, and audio equipment. Support audience includes faculty, staff, and students in delivering educational or other administrative content in learning and conference room spaces. The position also assists as needed with the configuration, installation, preventative maintenance, operation, and support of audio/video equipment in learning spaces and conference rooms.

Support audience includes faculty, staff, and students in delivering educational or other administrative content in learning and conference room spaces. The position also assists as needed with the configuration, installation, preventative maintenance, operation, and support of audio/video equipment in learning spaces and conference rooms.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
AV Support for academic teaching and learning spaces:
- Provides audio visual support for all the university’s core teaching spaces.
- Troubleshoot and resolve the instructional equipment in classroom, and classroom lab, related support issues or provide an alternative so that classes can continue.
- Testing and troubleshooting of system components, and functions, and field verification of connections, labels, installation, and work quality.
- Perform room tours to ensure all AV equipment/software is working properly, and repair/adjust equipment/software as necessary to insure optimum performance.
- Respond to help requests to troubleshoot potential AV issues. Meet with clients, identify issues, and provide solutions.
- Troubleshoots as needed to satisfy the end user’s needs and escalates if necessary.
- Proactively help identify issues and notify the appropriate team.
- Preventative maintenance of audio/visual equipment, including but not limited to:
- Software/firmware updates to videoconferencing units.
- Dusting of equipment vents and cleaning filters.
- Consulting with 3rd party support on hardware upgrades.
- Integrating new equipment into existing conference rooms.
- Install application software based on university standards and end-user requirements.
- Assist with installations if needed/required.
- Provide technical instructions to a non-technical audience.
- Collaborate with other members of the IT team, especially Service Desk staff to resolve tickets/issues.
- Escalates calls internally as needed, & monitors progress through resolution.
- Work independently with both minimal and specific direction as well as work as part of a team when appropriate.
- Record client requests and incidents in the ticketing system following documentation requirements.
- Help support larger events as needed with set-up/tear down of audio-visual equipment.
- Tests and troubleshoots audio and video conference equipment in conference rooms to ensure stability for clients.
- Software/firmware updates to all equipment associated with the audio and video conferencing needs of designated spaces.
- Assist with the integrating of new equipment in existing conference rooms.
- Assist with the troubleshooting of digital displays in conference rooms and public areas across campus.
Job Specific Duties

Minimum Qualifications
- Be enrolled in formal instruction in subject areas related to information technology OR show completion of related training courses / certifications.
- Be able to demonstrate technical familiarity working with networked end point devices (such as laptops, desktops, digital signs, and any audio-visual equipment etc.).
- Experience with customer focused technology support.
- Any relevant combination of related Information Technology certifications (example, Microsoft, Comp TIA A , AWS, etc.).
- Associate’s degree with coursework related to technology such as Information Systems, Computer Science, or Business Administration.
- IT certifications, such as CompTIA A , Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician, or AVIXA (Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association) certifications.
- Experience with IT project management and Product management training / experience.
- Experience supporting instructional technology in a classroom and/or lab environment.
- An excellent communicator, and enthusiastic collaborator, and a proponent of teamwork environment.
- Must be a self-starter, customer/client focused and energetic.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and colleagues.
- Interact and communicate with peers and customers in a professional, client-focused manner.
- Able to work in team settings and independently with limited direction.
- Understanding of AV control systems and video conferencing/recording systems.
