Position Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provide traffic safety
- Detect and deter criminal conduct
- Enforce security rules and policies
- Detect unauthorized personnel
- Act as first responder to critical incidents and emergencies
- Establishes emergency or temporary control points
- Respond to calls for assistance
- Mobile patrols
- Investigate incidents and offenses and safeguard disaster and crime scenes
- Enforce Federal law, applicable California law, and NASA regulations applicable to NASA property and facilities
- Enforce applicable California vehicle code and Center traffic regulations
- Conduct vehicle stops, direct traffic, investigate traffic accidents, write reports, and issue AFRC Administrative Traffic Citations
- Perimeter and internal access control
- Provide crowd control
- Perform special and hazardous operation support in accordance with approved safety and security plans
- Escort aircraft, flight hardware, miscellaneous movements, and other dangerous or hazardous movements as directed by the CPS
- Conduct random vehicle inspections
- Respond to bomb threats and suspicious packages to include searches to locate the threat, establishing appropriate security/safety cordons, and area evacuations
- Respond to Active Shooter and other random acts of violence, to include searches to locate and neutralize the threat, in accordance with established SOP
- Provide other duties as assigned
Overview
Security Officer at NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center (Edwards, CA) and/or NASA Building 703 (Palmdale, CA).
THIS POSITION REQUIRES AN ACTIVE NATIONAL SECURITY CLEARANCE (SECRET OR HIGHER).

Position Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be able to safely handle and qualify with assigned firearms
- Must pass background check
- Must have a valid state driver’s license
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a flight-line driver’s license
- Must be able to obtain certification as an Emergency Response Official
- Must be able to pass an annual Physical Abilities Test to include an obstacle course and a one mile run in <10.01 minutes
- Must be able to withstand sudden emotional stress and physical exertion in apprehension of suspects and violators
- Must be able to walk, run, jump, climb, or crawl, followed by physical contact in attempt to overpower a violator
- Must pass medical examination (to include vision and hearing), psychological examination (by administered MMPI-2 and Shipley Institute of Living Scale), and drug test
- Must be able to stand and walk for an entire shift, (at times, while outside)
- Must be able to safely operate a full-size patrol vehicle
- Must be able to obtain Security Guard License/Registration issued by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services;
- Must be able to obtain a Firearms Permit issued by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with the following skills and qualifications will be given preferential consideration:
- Possess a SECRET national security clearance
- Familiarity with limits of jurisdiction
- Former or current US Military-Law Enforcement and Combat Arms personnel
- Possess a current Security Guard License/Registration issued by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services;
- Possess a Firearms Permit issued by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services

Benefits:
This position is subject to a Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that dictates pay and benefits.
- Current hourly rate is $30.62 per hour ($26.07 Base pay plus $4.55 Health & Welfare benefit) After Training and Certification is complete
- Overtime paid at time and half of Base pay (excluding H&W)
- 2 weeks paid vacation (paid out yearly if not used)
- 56 hours paid sick time (paid out yearly if not used)
- 11 paid holidays
