Job Summary
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Science invites applications for a 100% special faculty/lecturer position in the Fine and Performing Arts Department to begin mid-September 2026.
The Lecturer in Costume Design and Technology will serve as a key faculty member in the Theatre Program, with primary responsibilities in teaching, production, and costume shop management. This is a multidisciplinary position that supports both the academic and production missions of the program, with an emphasis on career-connected learning and hands-on student mentorship.
The typical workload for this position will involve teaching 30 credits per academic year, subject to department needs. The position also requires the faculty member to design costumes for up to three shows in the mainstage season and serve as the costume shop manager overseeing a student staff and all aspects of wardrobe for 15 credits of release from teaching.
The candidate is not required to serve on committees unless this work is identified and approved as part of the workload by Department Chair and College Dean.
Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and maintain health and safety protocols in assigned classrooms.

Required Qualifications
- MFA in Theatre
- Expertise in Theatrical Costume Design and Construction and Make-up Design and application.
- Record of success teaching Theatre classes at the college-level, which may include experience as an MFA candidate.
- Professional theatre credits in costume design and technology.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that supports the needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Preference may be given to candidates who offer one or more of the following preferred qualifications:
- MFA in Costume Design
- Ability to teach in lecture-based theatre classes such as Theatre History and Theatre in the Humanities

- Serve as Costume Shop Manager, responsible for all aspects of costume production, including:
- Supervising and mentoring student employees and production crews
- Overseeing costume construction, alterations, and maintenance
- Managing costume stock, inventory, and organization
- Maintaining shop equipment and supplies
- Ensuring safe working practices and compliance with health and safety standards
