Empowering Women as Leaders (EWL) is a non-profit organization focused on helping non-traditional age women reach their highest potential through scholarships, mentoring, and networking. Founded in 2004, EWL provides financial assistance to college students who may not qualify for traditional funding. The organization pairs scholars with mentors and offers networking opportunities to support their academic, professional, and leadership growth. EWL operates as a working board of professional volunteers who are deeply committed to its mission and the success of its scholars.
Role Description
This is a volunteer part-time remote position, preferably located in the greater Houston, Texas area. Board Members will be involved in strategic decision-making, governance, fundraising, and oversight of the organization's activities depending on the Board position. They will actively participate in board meetings, committees, and engage in networking activities to support the mission of EWL.
Qualifications
- Experience in one or more of the following: governance, strategic planning, fundraising, marketing, recruitment, event planning, project management
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse group of professionals
- Knowledge or some experience in non-profit management or volunteering
- Commitment to supporting and empowering women leaders
- Experience serving on boards or committees is a plus
- Understanding of issues facing non-traditional age women in education and leadership
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
