Responsibilities

ProX Coaches play a critical role in supporting high school students and employers through a five-week summer ProX internship experience. This limited term role, serves as a bridge between student interns, employer partners, and the ProX program team—ensuring successful engagement, skill development, and program completion.

Through mentorship, site visits, and targeted support, coaches help students meet key program requirements, including participation in professional development and logging 125 hours of work-based experience. Coaches are champions of youth development, equity, and real-world learning, working closely with employers and educational partners to foster meaningful growth opportunities.

Specific Responsibilities include:

Student & Employer Coaching

  • Support the ProX coaching model by providing meaningful feedback to build performance and accountability for both interns and employers.
  • Provide direct coaching, support, and mentorship to students, with a focus on skill-building, professional growth, and self-advocacy.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that reflects human-centered, strengths-based approaches.
  • Support interns in completing all required professional development trainings and activities.
  • Guide employers in navigating program policies, expectations, and best practices for hosting interns.

Program Implementation & Intern Oversight

  • Conduct weekly site visits to internship locations to observe, coach, and assess learning/work environments.
  • Adapt to changing needs and priorities from interns, employers, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with ProX employer mentors to lead intern cohorts and ensure a smooth experience.
  • Capture and submit accurate data using ProX systems to track intern hours, issues, and key milestones.
  • Manage intern teams by monitoring attendance, engagement, and overall performance.

Communication & Relationship Management

  • Exercise professional conduct when engaging with employers, partners, parents/guardians, and ProX staff.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for your assigned intern cohort and their employers.
  • Establish and nurture relationships built on integrity, trust, and shared accountability.
  • Facilitate effective communication between students, employers, and the ProX administrative team.

Event Support & Collaboration

  • Assist in staffing and facilitating ProX events such as professional development days, hiring fair, intern kick off meetings and celebration events.
  • Coordinate closely with fellow coaches and the ProX team to ensure consistency and alignment across intern experiences.
  • Contribute to the effective delivery of intern professional development content.

Administrative Excellence

  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing intern information, visit schedules, and reporting.
  • Maintain clear documentation and records to support continuous improvement and program compliance.

Education And Experience

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in education, social work, youth development, or related fields (teaching certification a plus).

Work Experience: At least one year of relevant industry experience, with prior experience in program management, coaching, youth development, and education. Experience coaching or mentoring youth, particularly those from historically underserved communities.

Travel: Availability for in-person training in March–April 2026 and full-time program delivery in June–July 2026, with occasional evenings or weekends. Work is primarily in-person, with travel to internship sites across the Kansas City metro.

Qualifications

Candidates in this position must be highly motivated, capable of self-directed work, detail-oriented and able to work collaboratively across teams and departments. Candidates must exhibit a keen sense of responsibility and enjoy working with multiple demands, shifting priorities and constant change.

  • Has the ability to lead within an organization that prioritizes racial equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice in culture, strategic or programmatic work.
  • Is familiar with work-based learning, real-world learning frameworks, or student career readiness.
  • Is a relationship builder and leader with the ability to engage, inspire, and work collaboratively and effectively with a wide array of internal and external stakeholders while building supportive relationships across diverse populations.
  • Is confident, and possesses professional credibility, and excellent writing and speaking skills.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, professionalism, and a team-first attitude.
  • Has the ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and fingerprint clearance.
  • Has strong computer literacy skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
