The PHA Facilitator provides technical process safety engineering support services to the Tippecanoe Laboratories site to support our responsibility for designing, constructing, and operating safe chemical production processes throughout the process lifecycle.
This role does not directly support PSM programs or specific element implementation, compliance mandates, and/or auditing functions. The focus is on risk assessment and the technical engineering aspects of process safety.

The PHA Facilitator provides technical process safety engineering support services to the Tippecanoe Laboratories site to support our responsibility for designing, constructing, and operating safe chemical production processes throughout the process lifecycle.
This role does not directly support PSM programs or specific element implementation, compliance mandates, and/or auditing functions. The focus is on risk assessment and the technical engineering aspects of process safety.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate process safety discussions as PHA leader (HAZOP/PAAG, structured What-If).
- Prepare for and support Hazard Identification (HazId) studies, Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA) studies, Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Facility Siting Analyses (FSA), and related activities.
- Generate reports detailing process safety discussions and outcomes.
- Determine and evaluate process hazards from process deviations.
- Develop and evaluate process safety concepts at the site.
- Provide technical guidance on prevention and protection concepts and technical solutions.
- Perform process safety calculations (e.g., emergency relief system design/evaluation, dispersion analysis, flammability analysis, consequence modeling, combustible dust hazards, and reactive hazard evaluation).
- Collaborate closely with production, process technology, and engineering teams.
- Use PHA-Pro/Stature in alignment with established Evonik and Central Engineering templates and documentation practices.
- Support a high-volume schedule, often leading weekly, full-day facilitation sessions with cross-functional teams.
- Adjust priorities quickly as customer-driven timelines shift.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Process Technology, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
- 1 years of PHA facilitation experience (HAZOP/LOPA/What-If).
- Experience using PHA-Pro (Stature) or willingness and ability to learn it quickly.
- 5 years of experience desired in the chemical industry within process safety, production, engineering, or related technical roles.
- Knowledge of safety engineering principles and relevant regulations/industry standards (PSM, RAGAGEP).
- Strong analytical skills with a systematic and structured approach to work.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills; comfort interacting with operators, engineers, and multiple departments.
- Ability to manage a high-intensity workload with multiple active reports and shifting deadlines.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Strong initiative, sense of responsibility, and flexibility.
