JOB POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION PURPOSE: To provide outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management services.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
1. EDUCATION: Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing with focus on
Psychiatric nursing
Graduation from a state-certified advanced practice program specializing in psychiatry/mental health
2. EXPERIENCE: Must have one-year of continuous sobriety prior to hire, if in recovery
At least 1-2 years providing direct client care to persons receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders
Experience with co-occurring substance abuse/addiction disorders preferred
3. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Must be licensed in the state of Maryland as a
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Must have a valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license in Maryland
4. KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING REQUIRED AT TIME OF HIRE:
Must adhere to confidentiality requirements as outlined in 42 CFR, Part 2. (HIPAA)
Must have the ability to interact with staff and clients in a professional manner.
Must have the ability to handle stressful and demanding situations, while maintaining exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Must have the ability to adhere to all ethical guidelines set forth in accordance with the state of Maryland.
Must have the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization and work well within a team environment in support of the company objectives.
Should have the ability to work with minimal supervision, take initiative and make independent decisions based on the facility/department’s guidelines.
Ability to document and navigate EMR independently.
5. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires driving your own vehicle to and from work.
Ability to sit for long periods of time.
Ability to bend, stoop, and/or frequently walk around the office.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY TO POSITION
1. Responsible for providing psychiatric services to clients in a variety of clinical settings during scheduled hours. Scope of services includes outpatient psychiatric evaluations and medication management services.
2. Assess, diagnose, and treat adults experiencing symptoms of a behavioral health disorder.
3. Collaborate with counselors, social workers, or other treatment team members to coordinate client care.
4. Responsible for timely and accurate completion of medical records, including assessment, treatment plan, progress notes, outcome measures, and billing entries.
5. Counsel clients during appointments, as necessary.
6. Design/participate in the development of individualized treatment plans, incorporating best and leading practices into treatment interventions.
7. Examine or order laboratory or diagnostic tests for clients to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorders.
8. Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on client’s conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.
9. Prepare and submit assessments, progress notes, reports, and summaries to entities/agencies (funders, insurance companies, etc.) as required.
10. Return calls and emails promptly (within 24 hours of receipt or sooner if clinical necessary).
11. Respond to client emergencies
12. Responsible for making independent decisions based on protocols developed utilizing national guidelines for treatment interventions.
13. Responsible for maintaining customer relations with all agency staff and clients.
14. Records all services performed for accurate billing for services provided in compliance with all local, state, federal laws, as well as payor rules and regulations. Submits billing documents in a timely fashion.
15. Looks for ways to improve and promote quality of care.
16. Actively participate in all agency and department education, training and in-services to confirm understanding of new information for changes to established clinical policies and procedures.
17. Other duties as assigned.
