What are the responsibilities and job description for the PLC Programmer position at EVM Group?
PLC Programmer / Developer – Automotive Control Systems (Allen-Bradley & Siemens)
Location: Ann Arbor
We are actively seeking a highly skilled PLC Programmer / Developer with proven hands-on experience in Allen-Bradley and Siemens automation platforms. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in automotive control systems, specifically those aligned with GM GCCS and Ford FAST specifications. These platforms are central to our projects, so advanced familiarity is essential.
This is a full-cycle development role — not just maintenance or commissioning. We are looking for a PLC developer who can design, program, and implement control systems from scratch, ensuring full compliance with OEM standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement new PLC programs using Allen-Bradley (RSLogix, Studio 5000) and Siemens (TIA Portal, Step 7) platforms
- Develop and integrate control systems for major automotive OEMs including GM, Ford, and Stellantis
- Create standardized, robust code that meets GM GCCS and Ford FAST guidelines
- Collaborate with controls engineers, electrical teams, and project managers to design control logic, HMI interfaces, and system architectures
- Conduct offline testing, simulations, and code validation prior to deployment
- Support startup and commissioning activities when required (not the primary responsibility)
- Ensure compliance with all relevant OEM specifications, plant standards, and safety protocols
Qualifications
- Experience: 2–15 years of PLC programming in industrial automation, particularly in automotive manufacturing environments
- Platforms: Proficient in Allen-Bradley (RSLogix, Studio 5000) and Siemens (TIA Portal, Step 7)
- Automotive Controls: Required experience with GM GCCS, Ford FAST, and/or Stellantis control platforms
- Development Skills: Ability to perform full-cycle PLC development – from blank project creation to deployment and integration
- Education: Formal degree not required; preference given to candidates with strong practical, hands-on experience in PLC software development
- OEM Experience: Direct work on OEM manufacturing lines is a plus
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Has developed and deployed PLC code from scratch – not limited to debugging, editing, or patching
- Familiar with OEM standards, factory integration, and automation system design
- Comfortable working in both control panel development and field commissioning environments
- Brings a detail-oriented and results-driven mindset to high-precision automotive projects
