Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team. As a Direct Support Professional, you will provide essential support and assistance to individuals with disabilities, ensuring their well-being and enhancing their quality of life. You will work closely with clients in various settings, including group homes and community environments, fostering independence and promoting personal growth.
Responsibilities
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support
- Provide medication administration following care plans and safety protocols
- Monitor residents’ vital signs and observe for any changes in health or behavior
- Support residents during meal preparation and feeding, ensuring nutritional needs are met
- Assist with mobility using equipment such as Hoyer lifts or resident lifts to promote safety and independence
- Maintain a clean and safe environment through regular cleaning and sanitation practices
- Document care activities accurately in compliance with HIPAA regulations and facility policies
- Engage residents in social activities and community outings to promote socialization and well-being
- Follow individualized care plans tailored to each resident’s specific needs, including dementia or Alzheimer's care
- Recognize signs of medical emergencies or behavioral issues and respond appropriately
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and team members to ensure comprehensive care
Qualifications
- Experience working with people with developmental disabilities, autism, dementia, or aging populations preferred; group home or long-term care experience is a plus
- Certification in CPR and First Aid required; additional certifications such as HIPAA training are advantageous
- Knowledge of medication administration, vital signs monitoring, and patient observation techniques
- Ability to assist with ADLs, including bathing, dressing, grooming, meal preparation, and light cleaning
- Experience working with specialized populations such as Alzheimer's or memory care residents is desirable
- Strong communication skills and patience to work effectively with residents who have diverse needs
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary (e.g., resident transfers using Hoyer lifts)
- Compassionate attitude with a commitment to providing respectful and dignified care
- Valid driver’s license may be preferred for community outings or transportation responsibilities
