Part-time weekend roles available (Sat/Sun):
- Morning Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Evening Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
THE POSITION
The Youth Care Specialist plays a vital role in providing compassionate, trauma-informed care and supervision for residents while actively supporting the mission, values, and culture of EverHope. This position helps create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where children and youth can heal, grow, and succeed. Youth Care Specialists serve as positive role models by building meaningful relationships, encouraging healthy development, and supporting residents through daily routines, challenges, and milestones.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Actively supervise and engage with residents at all times while documenting and communicating concerns, observations, and feedback to Case Managers and Team Leaders
- Promote healthy development, positive behavior management, learning, and overall individual success for each resident
- Build supportive, positive relationships with residents through active participation in daily routines and activities
- Collaborate with Case Managers, Counseling Staff, and Education teams to support the overall needs and goals of each resident
- Transport residents to and from community activities, appointments, and other assigned destinations
- Apply child and adolescent development principles in daily interactions with children and youth
- Model and encourage healthy communication, teamwork, and positive relationship-building among residents and staff
- Adhere to all shelter policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state guidelines, as well as directives established by the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer
- Ensure intake, discharge, database entries, incident reports, and all required documentation are completed accurately and in a timely manner
- Foster a nurturing, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere that embraces diversity and promotes emotional well-being
- Encourage and support healthy hygiene, nutrition, and wellness practices
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold all organizational policies, legal requirements, and ethical standards
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, residents, volunteers, families, and external professionals
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and supportive living environment for residents
- Attend required meetings, trainings, certifications, and organizational events as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Twenty-one (21) years of age or older
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Physical stamina and agility required to care for active children and youth
- Physical ability to utilize authorized techniques for the management of aggressive behaviors
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with children who have experienced trauma
- Experience utilizing Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and Therapeutic Aggression Control Techniques (TACT)
- Relevant college coursework or degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
- Basic knowledge of Google Workspace and other database programs
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, telephone systems, calculators, and copiers
- Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills
- Flexibility, dependability, and self-motivation in a fast-paced environment
- Professionalism with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Compassionate, patient, and relationship-focused approach when working with youth
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
The demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
- Physical stamina and agility are required to care for children and youth of all ages
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
- Tasks may involve prolonged walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and lifting in both indoor and outdoor environments
- Exposure to communicable diseases/contagions and head lice may occur as part of the work environment
