Overview

Evergreen Virtual Academy (EVA) is an independently managed, public charter school for Kindergarten through 12th grade students in Oregon. When you join the team at EVA, you join a team of dedicated professionals working all over the state in a virtual environment to ensure the success of our families and students meet their educational needs and goals. EVA is authorized by the North Bend School District and accredited through Cognia.

 

Important Information about this position:

  • Employees of EVA are required to reside in Oregon.
  • Please include at least one current and/or recent supervisor in references to be considered.
  • As per our CBA, steps on our salary scale are not aligned directly with years of experience. To determine placement on the salary scale, most will fall at half of their experience plus 2 additional steps. Please refer to details on pages 37-39 of the CBA.
  • Counselors receive a stipend in additon to the base pay.  You can find the stipend information below the salary scale in the CBA. Postion salary range includes the additional counselor stipend.
  • EVA pays the employee 6% PERS contribution and employer contributions toward health insurance; premiums can be found in the CBA.
  • This is a virtual position with some required in person events and/or PD. For additional information, please refer to the Events section of the CBA.
  • The workday is 8am-4pm M-F.
  • Counselor contracts are for 203 work days (5 days more than a teacher school year).

Job Summary

High School Counselor

Success in this position will be evaluated based on the individual’s ability to support EVA by:

  • Administering a comprehensive guidance and counseling program for all students in the district based on the Oregon Framework for School Counseling Programs and its components (Guidance Curriculum, Individual Planning, Responsive Services, System Support, and Student Advocacy)
  • Provides services to all students in the academic, career, community involvement and personal/social domains in concert with school staff, parents, and the students
  • Assists students in dealing with special problems and needs as well as the development of personal/social behaviors.
  • Ability to work as a collaborative team

  • Participates in necessary meetings, trainings, and other staff development opportunities to meet the needs of the counselor and the counseling program.
  • Using a culturally responsive and sustaining approach to counseling
  • Serves as a member/leader of the crisis intervention
  • Supervising and administering the in-person or remote Oregon Statewide Assessments, including preparation, logistics, and security consistent with state policies and practices as needed
  • Evaluating academic and social growth of students consistent with the requirements of the school, keeping appropriate records and reports
  • Communicating with students and parents through a variety of means, including phone, text, and video conferencing.
  • Develops a master calendar for communication with students and parents and tracks information and events.
  • Provides counseling for individuals and small groups of students with identified educational needs/concerns.
  • Consults with parents, teachers, administrators and other relevant individuals to meet educational student needs.
  • Assists with referrals in collaboration with parents, administrators, teachers and other school personnel.
  • Holds parent conferences to discuss individual student’s progress and to interpret school
  • Assists in development of the high school master schedule
  • Works with 9-12 students to develop a four year and post-secondary
  • Tracks student graduation credit progress and provides support for students to stay on track with
  • May coordinate and/or support intervention team
  • Hosts Student Support Team meetings for Tier 2/3 students as needed
  • Provide academic, career, personal and social development for all
  • Meets 1:1 and in small groups with students to provide academic and social emotional support and guidance.
  • Regularly tracks student wellbeing and provides intervention when needed.
  • Work in coordination with the high school success team and administration to support students.
  • In addition to primary high school duties, the counselor will conduct grade level meetings to support career and college information at the middle school level.
  • Collaborate with the high school ASPIRE coordinator and lead development of the middle school ASPIRE programming.
  • Be familiar with intervention programs and community resource for families
  • Participating on a regular basis in professional development at both school and district level to maintain professional competence.
  • Meeting state standards for competent and ethical performance
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district, and school policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Develops and engages students through SEL and College & Career curriculum for students as appropriate for the grade level during student grade level meetings and in classroom settings
  • Builds relationships and presents college and career information to middle school students.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Communication and Relationship Building:

  • Establishes and maintains positive rapport with families and regularly communicates with students and learning coaches/parents.
  • Supports students and learning coaches with the set-up and maintenance of their learning environment including basic computer troubleshooting.
  • Understands how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impacts required support.
  • Works collaboratively with other staff to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program, that parents have a central point of contact, and that tasks are distributed among the stakeholders.
  • Contact students and/or learning coaches that need extra support and
  • Responds to students, parents, and colleagues in timely

  • Work with support staff, coordinators/specialists, and administrators to support students, collect and analyze data.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in School Counseling AND
  • 3 years of service in desired position OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to clear required background

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Appropriate state teaching certification or other license requirements

Other Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with the proposed age group

Physical/Mental Demands

The employee is required to possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Human relations and communication skills are necessary to handle frequent personal and telephone inquiries received from students/families, administrators, teachers, classified employees, and others. Work requests are often received which require immediate attention setting up conflicting priorities for timely response. Sound judgment and a pleasant attitude are required in stressful situations. The employee needs to be able to lift/move/carry materials, equipment or boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
