Automotive Technician
Evergreen Tire & Auto Repair is seeking an experienced Automotive Technician to join our full-service automotive repair and tire shop in Pullman, Washington.
We are looking for an experienced A- or B-level technician with at least 3 years of professional automotive repair experience and the ability to diagnose, maintain, and repair a variety of vehicle systems.
This is not an entry-level technician position.
The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills and is comfortable handling substantial automotive repair work, including engines, transmissions, driveline components, brakes, steering and suspension, and other mechanical systems.
Because we are a full-service repair and tire shop, our technicians also handle routine maintenance and tire work when needed. The person hired for this position must be willing and able to perform oil changes, fluid services, tire mounting and balancing, and other maintenance services based on the shop's daily workload and repair orders.
We service both domestic and import vehicles. Diesel repair experience is a plus but is not required.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical vehicle concerns and determine appropriate repairs
- Perform maintenance and repairs on domestic and import vehicles
- Diagnose, service, and repair engines and related components
- Diagnose and repair transmissions and driveline components
- Diagnose and repair differentials
- Perform brake diagnosis, maintenance, and repair
- Diagnose and repair steering and suspension systems
- Replace and service shocks, struts, and related suspension components
- Perform wheel alignments and related steering and suspension work
- Perform oil changes and routine maintenance services as needed
- Perform fluid services and other scheduled maintenance
- Mount and balance tires and perform other tire service as needed
- Perform vehicle inspections and accurately identify needed maintenance and repairs
- Use diagnostic equipment, testing procedures, and service information to troubleshoot vehicle concerns
- Perform road tests when necessary for diagnosis and repair verification
- Document inspection findings, diagnostic results, recommendations, and completed repairs accurately
- Communicate clearly with service advisors regarding vehicle condition, repair needs, parts needs, and job progress
- Move between diagnostic, mechanical repair, maintenance, and tire work based on the shop's daily workload and repair orders
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Follow shop safety procedures, repair standards, and company policies
- Complete work efficiently while maintaining quality workmanship
- Work independently while also contributing to an efficient and professional team environment
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of professional automotive repair experience
- Demonstrated experience performing automotive diagnosis, maintenance, and mechanical repair
- Strong mechanical diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Experience working on multiple vehicle systems, such as engines, transmissions, driveline, brakes, steering, and suspension
- Ability to perform oil changes and routine maintenance services
- Ability to mount and balance tires
- Ability and willingness to perform maintenance and tire work when required by the shop's workload
- Ability to use automotive diagnostic equipment, repair tools, and service information
- Ability to inspect vehicles accurately and identify mechanical concerns
- Ability to complete repairs efficiently while maintaining quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Dependable, organized, and professional work habits
- Valid driver's license required because this position includes operating and road-testing customer vehicles as part of vehicle diagnosis and repair
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working at an A- or B-level technician skill level
- ASE certifications
- Diesel repair experience
- Strong diagnostic experience across multiple makes and models
Compensation
This position uses a hybrid hourly and production-based compensation structure.
- Base pay: $22.50–$25.00 per hour (DOE)
- Technicians are also eligible for production commission based on billable hours.
- Depending on compensation tier and billable hours produced, combined base pay and production commission can result in approximately $32.50–$40.00 per hour in total hourly-equivalent compensation (DOE)
- Base hourly rates and production commission rates are tiered according to experience and demonstrated skill level
- Starting base rate is determined by professional experience and demonstrated technical skills
Production commission is variable and depends on billable hours produced.

Schedule
- Full-time
- Monday through Friday
- 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Typically 30–40 hours per week
- One-hour unpaid lunch period
- No weekends required
Hiring Process
Applicants must have at least 3 years of professional automotive repair experience.
Candidates selected to move forward may be asked to complete a hands-on technical skills assessment so we can evaluate actual diagnostic, mechanical, maintenance, and repair skills.
