What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood and K-2nd grade STEAM Teacher position at Evergreen Country Day School?

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspire Emerging STEAM Skills : Develop and deliver an engaging STEAM curriculum for Toddler through 2nd grade, rooted in building skills in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics, encouraging social/emotional learning and whole-child instruction.
  • Foster Exploration through Open-Ended Exploration as well as Whole-Group Instruction : Create a joyful and student-centered classroom that inspires students to explore the world around them, to ask questions and find the answers, to develop a life-long love of learning, curiosity, and a growth mindset. Design a diverse and inclusive learning environment that supports every student reaching the ECDS goals for STEAM in each age group.
  • Collaborate with Colleagues and Lead Tinker Lab Team : Work with fellow teachers to design interdisciplinary projects and ensure curriculum alignment. Facilitate monthly Tinker Lab team meetings to delegate material to be covered and responsibilities.
  • Communicate with Families : Quarterly communication with families at each age level outlining the academic material covered in the classroom. Communicate individualized correspondence about student progress and/or challenges, as needed. Report cards are completed for each grade level at the end of both the fall and spring semesters.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in school committees, events, initiatives, and extracurricular activities. Specifically, but not limited to, Back to School Cookout, Back to School Night, Nest Picnics, Holiday Fest, WISH, PreK Graduation, and 8 th Grade Graduation.
  • Attend faculty meetings and engage in professional development, including and not limited to teacher training week prior to the start of school, designated PD days on the school calendar, and the day after 8 th grade graduation.
  • Be an enthusiastic part of our school-wide House system, that provides a space for cross-age connections and building relationships outside of the classroom.
  • Design and prepare the Preschool and PreK students for performances throughout the school year, including but not limited to Holiday Fest and Grandparents Day.

Qualifications

  • Classroom experience teaching at the Early Childhood and Elementary levels, including experience in developing STEAM curriculum for Early Childhood students.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Psychology, Family Studies, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated passion and deep understanding of child development and best practices in Early Childhood Education.
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of early learners.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction when necessary to reach all levels of learners.
  • Collaborative spirit in developing curricula and teaching methods.
  • Flexibility, optimism, creativity, high expectations, and a growth mindset.
  • Enthusiastic involvement in the school community outside the classroom.
  • Proven positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Passion for the uniqueness of early learners.
  • Build on our commitment to teaching public speaking and presentation skills.
