EVERGREEN Business Process, Inc. (EBPI) an organization dedicated to providing customer satisfaction and effective business efficiencies is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Operation Planner to support our terminals on the west coast.
Scope of Position: The Operations Planner is responsible for the safe and effective planning of the loading and off-loading of cargo from containerized shipping vessels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create stowage plans under established booking guidelines and forecasting procedures, and ensure all special cargo is pre-approved and stowed per company and legal guidelines
- Compare booking status against forecasts and check against vessel capacity
- Perform calculations for stability, trim, shear forces, torsion, bending moments and draft for vessels to ensure accuracy
- Monitor the allocation of vessels and lines
- Create and maintain vessel schedules for associated ship routes and monitor berth availability and equipment for preventive/corrective measures
- Coordinate vessel operations in ports, communicate with ships’ masters and update associated reporting to monitor vessel stability
- Coordinate with stevedores from multiple terminals to ensure vessel plan is followed for loading and unloading cargo to assure safety, reduce costs, and maximize stowage
- Address any queries regarding stowage or operation or vessels
- Monitor advance planning activities prior to the vessel coming into port to ensure safe operations for stevedores and checkers, and coordinate with Vessel Operations Management to verify that all labor has been assembled for adequate and efficient operations
- Follow Company management policies and procedures and local practices
- Identify and resolve problems and issues on a daily basis of both a routine or a moderately complex nature
- Report problems and issues to the appropriate management, as needed, especially issues of complexity or great impact to the operation
- Prepare and completes various reports and forms and provide to respective parties for review by management
- Keep management abreast of any operational issues that would impact productivity
- Performs all other related duties, as required
Qualifications/Requirements
- Must be able to work rotating shifts to include - days, evenings, weekends and holidays or on an on call basis to ensure vessel schedules are met or to resolve potential cargo / vessel / port issues or problems
- Local hires preferred/but an out-of-state relocation allowance will be offered
- Ability to react quickly and efficiently to resolve any situation
- Ability to manage multiple and demanding tasks simultaneously
- Able to work effectively with all levels of personnel
- High level skill of planning and organizational skills
- Good understanding of container terminal operations, especially vessel cargo plans and sequencing of cargo handling activities
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
Education/Training/ Experience
- Should possess a four-year college degree or equivalent experience in lieu of degree
- Prefer a minimum of Two (2) years’ experience with containerized shipping.
- Should be familiar with specialized vessel planning computer programs and software.
