Overview
This position provides student-centered academic support to foster increased course success, the development of effective learning habits, and the implementation of problem-solving strategies. Duties & Responsibilities
Educational Support
- Tutor students individually and in groups across a variety of subject areas.
- Adapt a variety of tutoring methods to support diverse learning styles and academic levels.
- Assist students in developing essential learning skills, including study strategies, time management, and navigating course management systems (e.g., Canvas).
- Maintain and expand knowledge of tutored subjects by auditing courses, reviewing materials, and participating in training.
- Prepare, modify, and present teaching aids, information sessions, and related materials.
- Occasionally serve as a classroom-embedded tutor within designated course sections.
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for students of all backgrounds and abilities.
Operational Support
- Monitor and ensure compliance with Tutoring Center policies to maintain a productive and professional environment.
- Assist with campus outreach efforts, including visiting classes, developing promotional materials, and promoting tutoring services.
- Collaborate effectively as a team member and maintain a positive attitude when navigating problems with students or processes.
- Communicate with the Director regarding student concerns, challenges, and operational issues.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Assist with monitoring student progress and attendance.
General Duties
- Contribute to the success of the Tutoring Center by participating in campus committees, events, and activities as time permits.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental goals and the needs of the College.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:

Six months of full-time experience teaching/tutoring (or one year of completed coursework) at the College level in one or more of the following subjects:
- Calculus
- Chemistry
- Engineering
- Statistics
- Biology
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Business
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of mathematics through precalculus or Statistics (MATH 141, MATH 146 or equivalent).
- Skill in communicating clearly and effectively, both audibly and in writing.
- Ability to foster an inclusive and welcoming learning environment for students from different backgrounds, including ethnically, culturally, and neurologically diverse populations.
- Knowledge of strategies, principles, and methods to evaluate and address student needs.
- Skill in organizing, multitasking, and prioritizing responsibilities while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently while maintaining professionalism, quality customer service, and a positive attitude under pressure.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development to maintain and expand subject matter expertise and tutoring effectiveness.
Preferred
- Proficiency in Biology or Chemistry.
- Multilingual; Spanish fluency preferred.
- Two years of tutoring experience in a community college or higher education setting.
- Proficiency in two or more subject areas listed under the Required Education and Experience.
- Proficiency in tutoring statistics (MATH 146 or equivalent).
- Experience working with students with disabilities, including knowledge of inclusive learning strategies and accommodations.
- Associate's degree or higher.

Terms of Employment
- Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 9 months typically running from September-June.
- Overtime eligible - FLSA non-exempt
- Position is subject to Everett Community College policies and procedures.
- Represented by Washington Federation of State Employees Union.
- Performance will be evaluated after a six (6) month probationary period and annually.
