Overview


The Counseling & Student Success Department provides academic, career, and short-term personal counseling to currently enrolled students, as well as referrals to campus and community resources that support student success. Specifically, this position is funded through workforce funding and will support a diverse population of students who work to overcome barriers to earning a higher education. Counselors may also teach Human Development courses on topics such as Career and Life Planning, Stress Management, and Human Relations in the Workplace.

Duties & Responsibilities


Counseling
  • Provide educational, career and short-term personal counseling, and crisis intervention for individuals and groups.
  • Advise students in their course selections, programs, and pathways.
  • Develop and provide academic warning interventions.
  • Interpret placement test scores to make placement decisions, following college policy.
  • Refer students to college services, community agencies and other professionals as appropriate.
  • May administer and interpret group and individual assessments for counseling purposes.
  • May provide workshops and training related to counseling services.

Program Advising
  • Full-time faculty will be responsible for advising a caseload of currently enrolled students.
  • Participate at least once annually in professional development to maintain and update advising skills.
  • Participate in quarterly Advising cross-training per quarter as requested by the Dean/Supervisor.
  • Provide Program Advising as assigned for students in all areas in which the faculty member has been cross-trained.
  • Proactively contact all assigned students each contractual quarter.
  • Participate in advisee student support networks.
  • Active use of institutionally sanctioned advising platform(s) as appropriate for scheduling, record-keeping, degree planning, and communicating with advisees with ongoing development, training and support provided by the college.
  • Faculty Program Advisors will support students in developing the following skills:
    • Transfer and career planning.
    • Building, modifying, and adhering to a degree plan.
    • Identifying and adhering to institutional deadlines.
    • Accessing essential resources on campus.
    • Accessing technological resources that will assist them in monitoring their program blocks, graduation and transfer requirements.
    • Identifying and overcoming barriers to academic success.

Participation in College Priorities
  • Contribute to EvCC's mission, vision and values and to the priorities and objectives articulated in Charting a Path Toward Equity: EvCC Strategic Plan 2022-2027.
  • Attend and participate in:
    • the first two days of annual opening week activities held in the Fall quarter
    • department and division meetings
    • training activities as mandated by state and federal law
    • professional development program mandated by Washington Senate Bill 5227
    • the annual commencement ceremony in June.
  • Serve on committees.

Continuation of Professional Standards
  • Stay current in relevant best practices, emerging topics, and research, especially those related to the mission, vision, and values of the college.
  • Maintain certification and/or licensure required by the College in the performance of the faculty member's assignment.

Reassigned Time
  • The leadership of the College has the right to assign faculty duties to faculty members.
  • Faculty may be assigned non-faculty duties including, but not limited to, administrative functions, leadership of college initiatives, or other specially assigned duties.

Qualifications


Required Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a closely related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Active Washington State licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHCA, LMFT, LCSW, etc.)
  • Experience providing culturally-responsive counseling services

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of educational, career, and short-term personal counseling practices
  • Ability to provide crisis intervention and connect students with appropriate resources
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to support students and work effectively with colleagues

Preferred
  • Experience providing counseling or advising in a community college or higher education environment
  • Experience facilitating workshops, courses, or professional development related to student success or wellness

Terms of Employment
  • Full-time position, 166 days, alternative work schedule that may require work over quarter breaks and summer.
  • FLSA overtime exempt
  • Position is subject to Everett Community College policies and procedures.
