Responsibilities will include building and maintaining direct and intermediary business relationships where opportunities are cultivated, underwritten, and bound at your general discretion. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Manage a team of underwriters located in Chicago, New York and Warren, NJ. Underwriting and managing business within guidelines on an on-going basis. Handle and underwrite a substantial portfolio of national risks across various occupancies. This will be done through both the broker channel and direct basis, covering pro rata as well as excess structures. Develop new business opportunities in order to achieve company goals for growth and profitability. Interact and collaborate with all functional areas of the company including actuarial, contract wording, accounting, law and claims departments. Adhere to pricing and selection standards that supports strategic objectives and achieve desired financial goals. Maintain awareness of competitor capabilities and strategies, as well as the overall insurance marketplace. Referral approver once underwriting authority is obtained. Assist in developing junior staff. Flexibility to market and travel. Assist with managing risk on a portfolio basis. Assist with improvement of underwriting processes and procedures. Qualifications, Education & Experience Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience as a senior underwriter with 10 years of experience. Experience managing a team in a fast-paced environment. Facultative experience is a plus. The ability to interpret catastrophe modeling and actuarial methodologies and output. Middle Market, Large General Property, Complex Risk and Boiler & Machinery underwriting experience preferred. Established relationships with brokers and direct markets preferred. Capable of managing a large portfolio. Knowledge of attritional loss costs. Strong decision-making skills Knowledge, Skills & Competencies: Extensive knowledge and experience underwriting profitable portfolios. Highly collaborative and able to work effectively across the organization as well as with external stakeholders. Ability to adapt and embrace change, solutions driven. Tenacity and decisiveness, with the courage to take risks. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrates respect for the opinions of others. Collaborate with internal and external customers, stakeholders, and senior leaders and executives Take initiative and have an entrepreneurial spirit Be consultative providing innovative reinsurance solutions The base salary range for this position is $200,000 - $275,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
