Job Summary:
The Actuarial Catastrophe Modeling department at Everest is looking for a Catastrophe Modeling Researcher, who will assist our department in advancing our cat models. A successful candidate should have a desire to use problem-solving skills in applying sound scientific methods to solve unique and challenging problems in the fields of climate, atmospheric, seismic, and weather-related perils. It is expected that candidates will be highly motivated, detail-oriented, well-organized, able to perform self-directed research, have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and be team-oriented.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Validating vendor catastrophe models
Creating new catastrophe models
Assisting in real time event loss estimation
Learning basic reinsurance pricing
Presenting research to various departments at Everest
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
PhD/Masters in Engineering, Meteorology, Seismology, or related discipline preferred
2-5 years of work experience with catastrophe modeling in the re/insurance industry, government, or academia preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
Experience with catastrophe models
Programming/coding skills (SQL, Python, R, C#, etc.)
Excellent communication skills
Strong work ethic
The base salary range for this position is $152,000- $180,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
