About the Role While Everest currently operates primarily within the North American market, we see significant opportunities to expand globally. To support this growth, Everest Re Group, Ltd. (“Everest”) is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Data Engineering to help drive the execution of our Global Data Strategy. This highly visible leadership role requires a strong combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and people leadership. Working closely with business stakeholders, you will define, plan, and deliver technology solutions that enable business outcomes and support Everest’s long-term strategy. As a player-coach, you will lead multiple engineering teams while remaining actively engaged in technology strategy, architecture, and execution. You will serve as a key engineering leader across the organization, helping accelerate Everest’s data and analytics transformation journey. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership Partner closely with business leaders and internal stakeholders to understand strategic analytics and business intelligence needs, and translate them into technology solutions. Lead technology initiatives that enable meaningful, actionable, data-driven capabilities aligned with business objectives and enterprise strategy. Develop and execute data and analytics technology strategies and roadmaps that support rapid delivery of information management capabilities while aligning with established technology and architecture standards. Establish clear strategic direction and execution plans that support Everest’s global data ambitions. Data & Analytics Architecture Define and deliver the data and analytics architecture, tooling, and capabilities required to support a modern cloud-based data ecosystem. Establish best practices, governance frameworks, and controls to enable broad enterprise adoption while ensuring scalability, security, and reliability. Deliver capabilities that support the rapid ingestion of new data sources and the efficient deployment of advanced analytics and AI models into production. Champion modern engineering practices and cloud-first architectures that enhance agility, performance, and innovation. Engineering Excellence & Transformation Drive the organization's data and analytics transformation initiatives, accelerating cloud adoption while promoting security, governance, data quality, and integrity. Support the development of engineering capabilities that encourage code sharing, inner sourcing, and reusability across teams. Foster a cloud-first engineering culture leveraging automation, DevOps tools, and modern delivery practices. Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise standards. Delivery & Operational Leadership Drive the delivery of an exceptional customer and partner experience through intuitive, self-service data capabilities and trusted access to enterprise data. Manage engagement and coordination across assigned delivery teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Balance strategic priorities with operational excellence to ensure consistent delivery and measurable business value. Knowledge, Skills & Competencies Demonstrated success building, leading, and developing high-performing engineering teams. Inspirational leader with a proven track record of attracting, retaining, and developing top talent. Deep experience leading data and analytics organizations within complex multinational environments. Proven ability to deliver large-scale data and analytics initiatives on time, within budget, and with high quality. Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills. Ability to define a clear strategy and roadmap, align stakeholders around a common vision, and translate strategy into execution. Comfortable operating in a lean, hands-on environment that requires both strategic leadership and detailed execution. Strong customer-centric mindset with a focus on delivering impactful business outcomes. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field. 8 years of experience in data engineering, with deep expertise in delivering advanced analytics and data access capabilities. 5 years of people leadership and management experience leading technical teams. 10 years of experience within the insurance or financial services industry. Experience working within a large multinational organization preferred. Strong proficiency with the Microsoft Azure technology stack, including: Azure Data Factory (ADF) Databricks Cloud-based data platforms and technologies Strong programming and data engineering experience using: Python SQL Deep understanding of modern data engineering practices, cloud-based architectures, and analytics platforms. The base salary range for this position is $173,000 - $220,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
