Duties
- Safely operate school buses along designated routes, ensuring timely pick-up and drop-off of students.
- Follow all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and safety regulations to maintain a secure transportation environment.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, mechanical condition, and cleanliness.
- Implement emergency response procedures promptly in case of accidents or incidents, including CPR and first aid when necessary.
- Manage student behavior on the bus through effective communication skills and behavior management techniques.
- Assist students with special needs or disabilities, including paratransit services and child care considerations.
- Respond quickly to traffic changes or road conditions, adjusting routes as needed for safety and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate logs of routes, incidents, vehicle inspections, and passenger counts in accordance with school policies.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate school bus endorsements.
- Proven experience driving buses or commercial vehicles, with knowledge of defensive driving and emergency stop procedures.
- Familiarity with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety standards.
- First aid certification including CPR training; ability to respond effectively to emergency situations.
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for diverse communities.
- Experience working with children or in childcare environments is highly desirable.
- Mechanical knowledge for basic vehicle maintenance checks and troubleshooting.
- Ability to lift heavy objects safely as required for vehicle inspections or loading/unloading equipment.
- Knowledge of school policies related to student safety, behavior management, and transportation procedures.
- Multilingual skills preferred to assist with diverse student populations; experience in senior care or teaching is advantageous.
