JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Community Service Specialist (Special Staff, Category 3)
REPORTS TO: Community Service Coordinator
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
- Demonstrated experience working with youth ages 14-19
- Facilitation skills to effectively lead small group discussions
- Demonstrated experience with event or campaign planning, direct service and volunteer
management, and customer service
- Ability to work with and cultivate positive relationships with diverse groups of young
- Possess strong and effective organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a team in the public school setting,
with staff, students, community members and partners, visitors, and families in a
fast-paced environment
- Possess strong and effective skills related to Microsoft Office and Google Applications
- Ability to compute, process, and interpret data from a variety of sources
- Ability to work in a student-centered environment that values equity, creativity,
self-motivation, professionalism, reliability, and accountability
- Knowledge of Evanston and/or Chicago area non-profit organizations (preferred)
- Completion of mini-bus training certification [requires valid Driver’s License) (preferred)
- Experience with graphic design and social media (preferred)
POSITION STATEMENT: As a member of the Educational Services Department, the Community
Service Office supports youth involvement and leadership in taking community action. Within
this role, the Specialist is tasked to provide general administrative and outreach support for all
community service and civic engagement opportunities run by the Community Service Office.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with school-wide Community Service Initiatives through planning, logistics, and
- Support student access to community service opportunities within the school and
- Support the development of student leaders through the department's service club and
- Lead small and large group activities, meeting with small groups of students,
- Promote and develop community service activities and projects for and with all ETHS
meetings, etc.
- Support in the organization and execution of annual fairs
- Maintain records of students’ community service hours
- Update and maintain the organization’s website content
- Create regular social media posts as well as other marketing materials
- Manage administrative duties, including but not limited to, room reservations, financial
record keeping, and purchasing
- Cr eate a welcoming space for and provide friendly and professional customer service to
- Complete other duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months. Monday–Thursday, 8am–4:30pm; Friday, 8am-4:00pm
with flexibility to work occasional evening and weekend hours as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions
require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling;
some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling and
significant finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 25% sitting, 50% walking and 25%
standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard
free environment.
