Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed ophthalmic patient examinations utilizing ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment and tonometry to assess eye health and vision status.
- Diagnose and manage various eye conditions, including disease states such as glaucoma, cataracts, and refractive errors, ensuring appropriate treatment plans are developed.
- Perform contact lens fitting and provide guidance on lens selection, insertion, removal, and care to ensure optimal comfort and vision correction.
- Operate medical equipment safely and accurately, including ophthalmic diagnostic tools, vital signs monitors, and EMR/EHR systems for documentation.
- Educate patients on eye health, disease prevention, treatment options, and proper use of prescribed medications or corrective devices.
- Maintain detailed medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations while ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams during ophthalmic consultations to develop comprehensive care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
Experience
- Proven experience in ophthalmology or optometry practice with a strong background in optical experience and patient care.
- Familiarity with ophthalmic diagnosis techniques such as tonometry, visual field testing, and slit-lamp examinations.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye health and anatomy to accurately interpret clinical findings.
- Hands-on experience operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment and other medical devices used in eye examinations.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems for efficient documentation of patient encounters and medical records management.
- Understanding of disease state management within optometry or ophthalmology settings, including contact lens fitting procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse client populations while providing exceptional customer service in a healthcare environment.
