The Director of Accounting will lead the development accounting function for Orange Capital Advisors, the real estate development platform of Evans Management Group (EMG), while also supporting corporate accounting, treasury, and consolidation across EMG’s six business lines across five geographical divisions in the Carolinas.
This role will be responsible for building and leading an in-house development accounting platform, transitioning outsourced functions internally, and supporting corporate-level accounting, consolidation, and financial reporting for EMG.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Development Accounting & Operations (Orange Capital)
- Lead and oversee all accounting for development projects and joint ventures
- Transition accounting operations from external providers to an in-house platform
- Establish and maintain job cost tracking, budgets, and variance analysis
- Manage capital calls, investor distributions, and waterfall calculations
- Coordinate with development, asset management, and external partners
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Partner with development and leadership teams on project-level and corporate forecasting, budgeting, and reforecasting
- Develop and maintain cash flow projections and capital planning models across the development pipeline
- Provide variance analysis and performance insights to support strategic decision-making
- Support underwriting feedback loops by comparing actual performance to pro forma assumptions
Capital, Promote & Investor Reporting
- Support equity and debt financing efforts, including lender and investor reporting
- Lead administration of carried interest and promote structures, including:
- Allocation modeling and tracking
- Waterfall calculations and distributions
- Ongoing reporting to internal stakeholders and investors
- Support due diligence processes related to capital raises, refinancing, and audits
Financial Controls & Reporting
- Oversee reconciliations, balance sheet integrity, and cash management
- Prepare comprehensive reporting packages for leadership, lenders, auditors, and institutional partners
- Strengthen internal controls and establish scalable accounting policies and procedures
- Support consolidation across multiple entities and business lines
Leadership & Process Improvement
- Oversee outsourced accounting providers during transition period
- Build, mentor, and lead an in-house development accounting team as the platform grows
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure consistency, transparency, and scalability in financial reporting
- Work closely with senior leadership on organizational growth initiatives
- Drive process improvements, automation, and system enhancements
Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA strongly preferred
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant real estate development or construction accounting
- Strong knowledge of development accounting, job costing, capital structures, and carried interest programs
- Experience managing outsourced accounting or multi division operations
- Demonstrated ability to build structure and scale processes within a growing organization
- Experience with forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis (FP&A)
- Experience managing outsourced accounting functions or multi-entity/multi-division operations
- Background in real estate development, private equity, or investment management preferred
- Proven ability to build processes and operate in a dynamic, growing environment
- Strong communication skills with ability to interact with senior leadership and external partners
