Job Title: Litigation Attorney
Location: Annapolis, Maryland
Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in various litigation matters related to construction law and/or land use matters, from case inception through hearings, trial and appeal if necessary.
- Conduct legal research, analyze complex legal issues, and provide sound legal advice to clients.
- Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and settlement agreements.
- Prepare and attend depositions, hearings, and mediations to advocate for clients' interests effectively.
- Collaborate with the litigation support team, including paralegals and legal assistants, to ensure smooth case management and timely filing of documents.
- Engage in settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution methods to achieve favorable outcomes for clients when appropriate.
- Keep clients informed about case developments and provide strategic recommendations to achieve their goals.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in relevant laws, regulations, and legal trends affecting real estate and construction litigation.
- Marketing, networking, and engaging
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the Maryland State Bar.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Litigation Attorney, preferably with a focus on construction law and or land use matters.
- Proven track record of successful representation in construction law and land use matters.
- Strong legal research and analytical skills with the ability to craft compelling legal arguments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a legal team.
- Proficiency in legal research tools, case management software, and Microsoft Office 365.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple cases and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Self starter able to work independently in both a remote and in office setting.
- Desire to expand and grow the Firm through community involvement, volunteerism, bar association involvement. Ties to Anne Arundel County are a plus.
Representative matters include:
- Property defects and other disclosure issues
- Permitting
- General counsel to investors, property managers, inspectors, engineers, builders, contractors, etc.
- Construction non-payment, non-performance, and deficient performance
- Mechanic's Liens
- Payment Bond Claims
- Variances, Special Exceptions, Re-zoning and related development matters in residential and commercial development.
- Municipal involvement (utilities, cell towers, roads, etc.)
