We are a local church committed to faithful stewardship, financial integrity, and supporting the mission of ministry through sound financial practices. We are seeking a detail-oriented and trustworthy individual to serve as our part-time Accountant / Finance Manager.
Position Summary
The Church Accountant / Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all financial operations of the church. This includes accounts payable, contributions tracking, payroll, financial reporting, budgeting support, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit financial standards.
This role is critical in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting church leadership, and ensuring responsible stewardship of church resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable, vendor invoices, and timely payments
- Review and verify proper authorization for all expenses and reimbursements
- Maintain accurate financial records and general ledger
- Manage contributions, pledges, and donor records
- Process payroll, including payroll tax filings and compliance
- Monitor cash flow to ensure financial obligations are met
- Prepare monthly financial reports and assist with month-end close
- Assist in developing the annual budget with church leadership
- Prepare annual financial reports for church meetings
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls
- Maintain financial policies and safeguard church assets
- Provide financial insight and reporting to church leadership
Schedule & Reporting
- Part-time: 20–25 hours per week
- Flexible scheduling during normal church office hours
- Reports to: Church Treasurer, Lead Pastor, and Church Council
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of accounting experience (nonprofit or church experience strongly preferred)
- Working knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and compliance
- Experience with payroll processing and payroll tax reporting
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a church or nonprofit setting
- Familiarity with donor management or church management systems
