Substitute Teacher
Position Summary
The Substitute Teacher provides instructional support and classroom supervision in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Substitute teachers maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment while implementing lesson plans and ensuring students remain engaged in learning activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular teacher.
- Maintain appropriate classroom management and student discipline in accordance with district policies and procedures.
- Create a safe, respectful, and orderly learning environment.
- Take attendance and maintain accurate records as required.
- Supervise students throughout the school day, including transitions, lunch, and other assigned duties.
- Provide assistance to students with assignments and answer questions as appropriate.
- Communicate any significant issues, concerns, or incidents to campus administration.
- Protect the confidentiality of student information and records.
- Demonstrate professionalism and serve as a positive role model for students.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and administrators.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain classroom order and manage student behavior.
- Must meet all state and district requirements for substitute teachers, including background checks and fingerprinting.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry classroom materials and supplies.
- Ability to perform duties in a variety of classroom and school settings.
Work Schedule
Assignments are on an as-needed basis and may vary by campus, grade level, and subject area.
Compensation
Compensation is based on the district's approved substitute pay schedule.
