Substitute Teacher

Position Summary

The Substitute Teacher provides instructional support and classroom supervision in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Substitute teachers maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment while implementing lesson plans and ensuring students remain engaged in learning activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular teacher.
• Maintain appropriate classroom management and student discipline in accordance with district policies and procedures.
• Create a safe, respectful, and orderly learning environment.
• Take attendance and maintain accurate records as required.
• Supervise students throughout the school day, including transitions, lunch, and other assigned duties.
• Provide assistance to students with assignments and answer questions as appropriate.
• Communicate any significant issues, concerns, or incidents to campus administration.
• Protect the confidentiality of student information and records.
• Demonstrate professionalism and serve as a positive role model for students.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
• Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and administrators.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain classroom order and manage student behavior.
• Must meet all state and district requirements for substitute teachers, including background checks and fingerprinting.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry classroom materials and supplies.
• Ability to perform duties in a variety of classroom and school settings.

Work Schedule

Assignments are on an as-needed basis and may vary by campus, grade level, and subject area.

Compensation

Compensation is based on the district's approved substitute pay schedule.
