Job Overview:
Own the end-to-end packaging development lifecycle, from concept to commercialization. This role requires a technically strong and detail-oriented engineer with experience in beauty or personal care who can manage timelines, ensure quality, and drive innovation. Startup experience is highly preferred. You will serve as the key point of contact across internal teams and external vendors for all packaging development communications.
Location: Brooklyn (3 days a week in office)
Salary: $100,000
Responsibilities:
- Review and approve technical drawings for all primary and tertiary packaging components
- Kick off new packaging briefs with suppliers
- Determine best-suited packaging formats based on formula compatibility (e.g., viscosity, pH, reactivity)
- Set up and review compatibility testing; flag potential risks and advise on mitigation strategies
- Conduct transit and functionality testing to validate packaging design
- Lead line trials, document results, and troubleshoot manufacturing or operational issues
- Proactively identify cost-saving or material optimization opportunities without compromising brand or quality standards
- Serve as the technical lead in packaging meetings with suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Manage artwork and proof release process with internal creative teams and external vendors
- Own the packaging color development process
- Create and maintain databases for finished good and component specifications
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field
- 4 years of experience in packaging development, preferably in consumer packaged goods (CPG), beauty, or personal care
- Strong technical knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing methods, and sustainability best practices
- Proven experience in end-to-end packaging development, including setup of functionality, compatibility, and transit testing
- Proficient in reviewing technical drawings and developing detailed finished good and packaging specifications.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills are a must
- Startup or high-growth environment experience strongly preferred
