What are the responsibilities and job description for the HEATED SHELF GLASS PREPARATION TECHNICIAN - 1st SHIFT position at EUROPTEC USA LLC?
General Purpose:
Performs heated glass responsibilities as listed below at the direction of management.
NOTE: Wearing personal protective equipment as defined in the work instructions for each task is mandatory.
Essential Functions:
Insulation Function
- Operates circular saw to cut aluminum extrusion
- Assembles corner keys and aluminum extrusion to make spacers/frames
- Keeps production records
- Inspects the glass and stacks spacers/frames
- Operates the sealant pump to seal IG units
- Uses razor blade to cut apart sealed units that have been stacked one on top of the other
- Operates caliper to measure units and records measurements
- Inspects/packs units in a wooden crate
- Works with Production Supervisor to resolve problems in the area
- Maintain cleanliness of work cell
Lamination Function
- Inspects glass and raw materials to be laminated
- Uses hand tools (e.g. razor knife, rolling pin, scissors, etc)
- Stacks and aligns glass and laminating materials and puts in the laminating oven
- Reads process parameter sheets to understand how to run oven based on materials being used
- Understands room and environmental requirements for effective lamination
- Operates oven accordingly
- Removes and inspects finished product
Silk Screen Function
- Operates squeegee sharpener to ensure good sharp edge
- Inspects and prepares screen
- Uses hand tools (e.g. drill with attachments, Allen wrenches, etc.) as necessary
- Reads blueprints
- Inspects materials as it goes into the process and comes out of the process
- Makes adjustments to screen and machine to ensure that the glass meets the specifications on the blueprints
- Understands how to effectively operate the machine
- Operates the drying oven effectively by adjusting temperature and speed
- Cleans, tapes, and moves screen as necessary
- Identifies defects or problems with the machinery and reports them as necessary
Soldering
- Reads and understands blueprints
- Uses hand tools (e.g. caliper, crimpers, soldering iron, fingers that set the wires in place)
- Understands the difference between different soldering materials
- Sets up charcoal filter fan next to soldering area to remove fumes
- Tests the quality of the soldering by performing the pull test with a force gage
- Records production and test data
Copper Buss Bar
- Reads and understands blueprints
- Follows work instructions to ensure that machine is set up properly
- Uses hand tools as appropriate to make adjustments
- Performs tests (soldering/pull test, resistance test) to ensure conformance to internal standards
- Performs maintenance on equipment as necessary
Heated Glass Assembly
- Gather components for assembly
- Inspects components to ensure they meet the required quality
- Follows instructions to assemble components
- Tests finished product to ensure proper performance (including using thermal imaging camera and/or hi-pot testing)
- Records test results for towel warmers
- Prints serial number labels for traceability and puts labels on product and package
- Follows instructions for proper packaging
Edge Deletion and Logo/Tape
- Reads and understands blueprints
- Follows work instructions to ensure that machine is set up properly
- Performs tests periodically to ensure that glass meets aesthetic and functional requirements
- Uses hand tools to perform quality tests (e.g. caliper, 4-point probe)
- Does all other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:
- Must have good attention to detail to ensure that glass produced is in accordance with specifications
- An individual is considered qualified upon notification by the PS or department head to the DHR that the employee has successfully completed the training and is qualified to perform the position. Notation of this notification is made in the employee’s training record.
- Completion of primary school education with six months of experience or related training and six months experience. High school diploma or GED strongly desired. Trade school certification helpful.
- Must have basic understanding of how to handle paints, sealants, and solvents in accordance with work instructions
- Must have strong understanding of safety and environmental procedures associated with this job
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Ability to understand work instructions and communicate problems to the Production Supervisor
- Ability to collect production data to complete required forms
- Ability to perform elementary mathematical operations; familiarity with measuring units and measuring instruments (i.e. conversion of pounds to kilograms and gallons to liters)
