Job Description
Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks a postdoctoral researcher to develop dense working fluids for superhot geothermal energy. The role emphasizes choosing chemical components and systematically optimizing formulations, with experiments targeting conditions of at least 375 °C and 22 MPa.
Candidates should bring hands-on fluid formulation experience, quantitative laboratory skills, and a relevant PhD awarded within five years or completed before appointment. Research backgrounds in chemistry, chemical engineering, geochemistry, and related disciplines are welcome. Experience with geothermal applications is optional; demonstrated ownership of formulation decisions is essential.
The appointment is based onsite in Los Alamos, New Mexico, for two years, with a possible third year depending on funding and performance.
Apply through the official LANL vacancy, reference IRC146214, with a CV and a one-page cover letter explaining a formulation you designed and how testing guided improvements. Review the official announcement for complete requirements, including facility-access eligibility restrictions.
