Optician / Licensed Optician

Overview

Join EuroOptica, one of New York City’s premier luxury optical boutiques, as an Optician or Licensed Optician. This role combines optical expertise, luxury eyewear, advanced lens technology, and exceptional client service.

You will guide clients through a highly personalized experience—from frame and lens selection through precise measurements, dispensing, adjustments, and long-term care. Our boutiques feature distinctive independent eyewear brands, advanced lenses from ZEISS, Shamir, Varilux, and Hoya, state-of-the-art centration technology, and in-house lens finishing capabilities.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about eyewear, understands the importance of technical precision, and believes in providing unreasonable hospitality to every client.

Responsibilities

• Provide a welcoming, personalized, and elevated experience to every EuroOptica client
• Assist clients in selecting eyewear that complements their prescription, lifestyle, comfort, and personal style
• Recommend appropriate lens materials, designs, coatings, and technologies based on each client’s visual needs
• Take accurate optical measurements using both traditional methods and advanced digital centration technology
• Interpret prescriptions and properly fit, verify, dispense, and adjust prescription eyewear
• Perform frame adjustments, repairs, troubleshooting, and ongoing eyewear maintenance
• Inspect completed eyewear to ensure prescription accuracy, quality, comfort, and proper fit
• Educate clients about their eyewear, lens technology, adaptation, proper care, and available options
• Coordinate with optometrists, optical laboratories, vendors, and other EuroOptica team members
• Assist with lens edging, mounting, and other in-house laboratory responsibilities when qualified
• Maintain accurate client and order information in our practice-management and point-of-sale systems
• Assist with insurance benefits, payments, order follow-ups, and other aspects of the client experience
• Develop long-term client relationships and contribute to individual and boutique sales goals
• Maintain attractive, organized, and professional eyewear displays and work areas
• Protect client confidentiality and comply with all applicable privacy and professional standards

Qualifications

• Previous optical experience in a retail optical boutique, optometry practice, or similar environment
• New York State Optician license strongly preferred; experienced non-licensed opticians may also be considered
• Strong knowledge of frame fitting, optical measurements, prescription interpretation, lens materials, progressive lenses, coatings, and dispensing standards
• Experience with luxury or independent eyewear is preferred
• Familiarity with premium lens technologies from ZEISS, Shamir, Varilux, Hoya, or similar manufacturers is a plus
• Optical laboratory, lens edging, or finishing experience is highly valued
• Strong sales ability combined with a genuine, service-oriented approach
• Excellent communication, follow-up, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable using point-of-sale systems, optical software, and other retail technology
• Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy, quality, and accountability
• Able to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented boutique environment
• Availability to work a flexible retail schedule, including weekends when required

Pay: $25.00 - $45.00 per hour
