Job Description
The Project Management Group Intern will support the Sunnyvale Project Management (PM) team with ownership and execution of tasks designed to improve efficiency in sample handling, project coordination, and reporting processes. This role provides hands-on exposure to technical project management within a laboratory-based, high-tech environment supporting failure analysis and analytical services.
The intern will work closely with Project Coordinators and Project Managers to assist with receiving and shipping customer samples, coordinating sample flow, tracking project status in JIVA, and supporting administrative and reporting activities. As the internship progresses, the intern will take on increased responsibility, including managing small projects, coordinating data collection, and supporting consolidated project summaries and presentations.
This internship is structured to build strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills while providing insight into how technical projects are managed from intake through completion.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Receiving, organizing, and coordinating customer samples
- Supporting shipping and receiving activities for projects
- Tracking project and sample status within JIVA
- Assisting with project coordination and administrative tasks
- Managing small, clearly defined projects with guidance from PMs
- Compiling weekly or consolidated project summaries
- Supporting photo-documentation of samples using microscopy and photography
- Dumping, organizing, and maintaining images in shared repositories
- Assisting with PowerPoint presentations, reports, and white papers
- Helping streamline project workflows and improve reporting efficiency
During the first two weeks, the intern will receive structured training covering:
- Overview of the project lifecycle and role of the Project Management Group
- How to navigate and use JIVA for project tracking
- Sample handling and disposition workflows
- Expectations for communication, organization, and project ownership
The Intern Will Gain

This internship provides hands-on exposure to technical project coordination and project management within an engineering and science-based environment. No prior project management experience is required; training and mentorship will be provided.

- Excellent attention to detail

- Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, PowerPoint; Copilot experience a plus)
- Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, including with customers
- Confidence, initiative, and willingness to work independently after training
- Critical thinking and problem-solving mindset
- Creativity and interest in making processes more efficient and visually effective
- Comfortable managing multiple tasks and priorities on a weekly basis
